NFL Week 8 Picks: How Teams with Longest Losing Streaks Will Fare

Brian MaziqueOct 26, 2012

There are five teams in the NFL with a current losing streak of three games or longer. All but one of them will remain on the skids through Week 8.

The Cincinnati Bengals are one of those teams, but they're on their bye week, so they have to wait until Week 9 to get back in the win-column.

Three of the other four teams have difficult games on their schedule. Here's how the teams streaking in the wrong direction will fare.

Panthers Have No Chance In Chi-Town

The Carolina Panthers have lost four games in a row, and things don't get easier for them. They go into Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears.

The Bears' defense has forced a league best 21 turnovers this season. The Panthers' offense has struggled mightily. They're ranked 28th in passing and just 16th in rushing.

Cam Newton has thrown six interceptions to only five touchdown passes.

The Bears' defense will continue to add to he and the Panthers' woes. Carolina's losing streak will run to five games.

Banged-Up Cardinals Won't Hold Fort Against Niners

The Arizona Cardinals have had so many injuries this season, it's a wonder they even have four wins. Early in the season it appeared they would possibly be the 2012 version of the 2011 Detroit Lions.

That hasn't quite panned out as the backfield has been decimated by injury, (Chicago Tribune) and QB Kevin Kolb went down with an injury. The team could probably make due with John Skelton were it not for the issues at RB.

Larod Stephens-Howling had a solid game on Sunday, but it's hard to see him having similar success against the San Francisco 49ers' front seven.

The Niners' defense should still be smarting from the beating the New York Giants gave them in Week 6. They began to right the ship in Week 7 against the Seahawks.

This week, they'll drive another wedge between them and the rest of NFC West with a road win over the Cardinals.

Arizona will drop their fourth straight game after starting the season 4-0.

Jags Set To Be Jacked Up In Green Bay

If you think the beating the Bears put on the Jags in Week 5 was bad, wait until you get a load of what's going to happen to them at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

I'm not saying the Packers are a better team than the Bears—that still remains to be seen.

But I am saying the Packers' offense is far more explosive. In addition to that, Maurice Jones-Drew isn't going to play in this game, per Fox News, and that takes away the only rock the Jags had for their slingshot.

The Jags are dead last in the NFL in passing, and with MJD they were 28th on the ground.

This one won't be pretty.

A fourth consecutive loss seems inevitable for the Jags.

Chiefs Will Nip The Raiders In An Awful Football Game

It won't be pretty, but when you've lost three in a row, any win is beautiful. Coming off the bye week Brady Quinn will have had ample time to practice with the first-team offense.

He would be smart to find chemistry with the Chiefs' disgruntled star WR Dwayne Bowe (Pro Football Talk). This team has weapons, they are just having issues executing. Their running game is sixth in the league in total yards, and the offense is fifth in the NFL in first downs.

Where's the problem?

Turnovers.

The Chiefs have turned the ball over a league-high 21 times. That includes an ungodly 10 fumbles lost. This is pure fundamentals and discipline, which are all fixable problems.

The good thing for them this week is that they are facing the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders will give you an opportunity to make mistakes, and still beat them.

Just look at their game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6. Matt Ryan threw three interceptions in the first half, yet the Falcons won the game 23-20.

Neither of these teams figures to light up the scoreboard, but the Chiefs' have the definite advantage playing at home.

They are the only team in the NFL that will end a long losing streak in Week 8.
