Time for Sprint To Step Up, Like Winston Used To Do!
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is no doubt hurting do to this rough economic time, just like every major sport. But unlike baseball, football, hockey, and any other major sports, there are major sponsors sponsoring NASCAR.
Without sponsorship in NASCAR, no one makes money and no one runs the races. With that being said, it makes absolutely no sense to ban two sponsors (AT&T and Verizon Wireless) from being in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. These are two sponsors that want to be in the sport and want to sponsor a team, so why not let them?
They’re being banned since the major sponsor is a cell phone company? Come on! Is this a racing series or an advertising company?
Last season the No. 31 car of Richard Childress Racing was forced to find new sponsorship because AT&T couldn't be on the car.
Huh? Yeah it is ridiculous. Childress did find sponsorship though.
Caterpillar, which had been on Bill Davis Racing's No. 22 since 1999, came over to Childress and driver Jeff Burton. What happened to Bill Davis Racing? Well due to the lack of sponsorship on his team they had to cease operations and Davis was forced to sell his organization.
Why? It’s because of a dumb rule that NASCAR has put into place.
The rule would make sense if Sprint were on a race car, like Winston did in the late 1990s. From 1994-1999 The RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company sponsored Travis Carter's No. 23 Ford. During that time, no other cigarette company was allowed in the Winston Cup Series.
However, with Winston sponsoring a low budget race team, it was a nice medium to help the sport that Winston cared about so much.
It's time for Sprint to step up and help this series and the teams that are hurting for money. Is it too much to ask Sprint, to step up full time and help a guy like Joe Nemechek having his own deal to succeed?
I blame NASCAR for this problem as well. Why in the world would you put this rule into effect? Tell Sprint they can sponsor the series, but that's all.
You don't own NASCAR…the fans do! Who cares if you get a little less money for the sport, when most of that money goes right into their pockets?
These are the kind of things that are going to sink NASCAR for their stupidity. It's time for NASCAR and Sprint to come together and figure this thing out.
There are two multimillion dollar sponsorships that want to be in the sport and because of a dumb rule and some money hungry NASCAR people, they can't be. That makes no sense!
Let's fix this NASCAR, before we end up like the Arena Football League.
