Who Are the Top Quarterbacks in the Game?

Tony SantorsaMar 12, 2009

In the NFL nowadays, there are three types of quarterbacks: average, all-pro, and elite. But who falls under the elite category? You might be surprised who doesn't.

A quarterback that is a three-time Super Bowl winner, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, an NFL MVP, and the record-holder for most touchdown passes in a season, Tom Brady comes to the top of the list in the elite category.

You also can't forget one of the most explosive and talented quarterbacks of all-time, Peyton Manning. Well, those are the first two names that come to mind, but who else is worthy enough to fall in that elite category?

There some very, very, talented quarterbacks out there, like Tony Romo, Drew Brees, Eli Manning, and Donovan McNabb, but are any of them in the same league as Peyton and Brady? I don't think so.

NFL fans all over the place are all over Romo, but what success has he had? He has yet to win a playoff game, and furthermore, he fumbled a snap in the playoffs which cost Dallas the game. But he does have numbers.

He does have a career 94.7 quarterback rating and 81 career touchdown passes thrown in only three years, but those statistics right there can be found on any sports website.  Does that really go into detail in terms of how he performs during the year?

Romo has outstanding games, don't get me wrong, but I have seen him have some horrific performances (five interceptions on Monday night against Buffalo in 2007.) How many times do you see Brady or Peyton have those kinds of games? Never.

If you are an elite player, you don't have off-days, every game should have reporters and fans question "Will he throw six touchdowns? Will he have 500 yards passing?" and they shouldn't be questions like, "Which Romo or McNabb will show up today?"

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are the games' top performers out of any position. They are both clutch, they don't crumble under pressure, and they have the stats and Super Bowl wins to back them up, unlike Romo, McNabb, or Brees.
