WWE Hell in a Cell 2012: Why CM Punk vs. Ryback Is a Good Backup Plan

Giulio RomanoJun 7, 2018

Hell has been unleashed on Earth, or at least, within the confines of a steel cage.

WWE Champion CM Punk is now set to meet his biggest challenge to date, and should he come out still holding the title, then he really would be the best in the world.

Ryback has recently been chosen to replace an injured John Cena for this event, and though it is a rather sudden decision, given the fact that he colossus is new on the scene, it could not have been a more perfect backup plan.

Though this event seems to lack the grandeur of a "classic Four" WWE pay-per-view, it does has some gems-in-the-making in it, and the main event, Punk vs. Ryback, will probably count as one of them.

WWE Creative has done well by going this route. Here's why.

CM Punk Gets to Have His One-Year Reign

1 of 4

Since John Cena isn't part of the main event, this only means one thing: CM Punk will win!

There is no way in hell (ironic isn't it?) Ryback comes out holding the gold. The guy is too "new," and it would ruin everything WWE has going with Punk right now.

The real threat was Cena, in theory, because The Rock is waiting in the wings to challenge for the championship in just a few short months. There can only be two logical opponents for the "Great One," and they are CM Punk and John Cena.

With Hell in a Cell behind him, the champion will most likely past the 365-days mark and make headlines once more.

No one has held a title for a whole year since Superman a.k.a. John Cena in 2006-07.

Let's start celebrating now.

Fans Get to See What Ryback Can Really Do

2 of 4

Besides yelling out "FEED ME MORE", stomping around the ring and defeating two no-names at once, what can Ryback do?

He does have a mean stare and the intensity of a young Batista, but does that hide the fact that this man was once Skip Sheffield?

The former Nexus character was shelved due to injury and returned with a new and improved persona, successfully enough to be thrown into the main event. That is quite a feat.

Now, with no DQs and Count-Outs, this monster will be free to do as he pleases. Big question...what can he really do in the ring?

The WWE Universe will soon find out. He is already a success when it comes to fan reaction. People actually cheer when he comes out, which is a great start.

He isn't taking on just anybody this time, however, and this will prove to be very interesting because CM Punk is no fool. He is the best in the world, and Ryback will discover why.

This is the perfect test.

The Punk-Cena Magic Is Saved for a Later Date

3 of 4

John Cena vs. CM Punk is always a success.

No matter how many times it happens, fans want to see more of these two because they have the chemistry of champions.

Now injured, Cena has no choice but to step back and take a breather so that he may return in force to challenge his nemesis, Punk, for the championship sometime before the end of 2012.

This is a real treat when you think about it. This is the best thing that could've happened to all parties.

Punk gets to reach 365 days in his reign, Ryback gets a shot at becoming a real Superstar, and John Cena heals up so he can fight another day.

Don't forget to add in the WWE Universe having to wait patiently for the next Punk-Cena match...all is well that ends well.

Hell in a Cell 2012 Will Not Stand out in History But...

4 of 4

This show will have some great spots and a few quality matches that will make it worth the money spent.

Kofi vs. Miz and Punk vs. Ryback are the ones to look out for this evening. Championships and legacies hang in the balance, but only one can come out the victor or, for that matter, the champion.

WWE has managed to make the save one more time, turning bad timing into incredible opportunity.

What will be the outcome of Hell in a Cell 2012? Who will be left split, broken and finished?

Oh! there will be blood out there tonight. Hell hath no fury like a McMahon scorned!

This is WWE after all, not Cirque du Soleil!
