Greg Jennings: Potential Fantasy Replacements for Packers' Injured WR

Rob GoldbergOct 21, 2012

Greg Jennings will miss his third-straight game as the Green Bay Packers take on the St. Louis Rams. The Packers will be fine, but fantasy owners might be left without a backup option.

Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported that the receiver will be out this week.

It turns out Greg Jennings can't always put the team on his back. As a result, fantasy owners should make a few adjustments and pick up these last-minute options before game time on Sunday.

Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers

Cobb is finally making his way onto fantasy teams after two big weeks. However, he is still available in 45.7 percent of ESPN leagues.

With Jennings out, he moves up the depth chart and into the view of talented quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Jordy Nelson remains higher on the pecking order and James Jones has been getting more touchdowns, but Cobb is still a solid option on this high-powered attack.

Last week, the receiver caught seven passes for 102 yards on 10 targets. This implies that he has become an integral part of the offense and should remain that way at least until Jennings returns to the field.

He becomes a perfect receiver handcuff for owners of the injured star.

Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns

Although he has registered 35 fantasy points in the last two weeks, Josh Gordon is only owned in 35.6 percent of ESPN leagues.

While it is easy to dismiss the last couple of games as fluky, it would not be an accurate assessment. He was targeted 12 times in that span and has connected with a deep touchdown pass in each game.

Cleveland does not have much of a passing attack, so the team will continue to take shots down the field to one of its most dynamic players. Every so often, this will result in a big play in both fantasy and real life.

Gordon's Week 7 opponent, the Indianapolis Colts, officially have the No. 3 pass defense by yards, but only 10 teams have allowed more yards per attempt. He should not have a problem getting past this unit.

Kendall Wright, Tennessee Titans

The rookie wide receiver has been on the brink of a great fantasy performances all season.

Wright is the most targeted player on the Titans and has a team-high 33 receptions. To this point he has been more of a possession receiver, but he has the speed and agility to take a catch to the house at any point.

He is a relatively safe fantasy play, especially in PPR leagues, for those looking to guarantee close to 7-10 points.

While others might boom or bust, Wright will help keep you competitive while the rest of your team hopefully takes care of business.
