Predicting the MVP for Each NFL Game Week 7

Marc LillibridgeJun 7, 2018

Week 7 started with a defensive battle in Northern California with the San Francisco 49ers outlasting the Seattle Seahawks.  With the entire AFC East at 3-3 and only two teams, the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, with a winning record in the AFC, Week 7 should be when we begin to see some separation between the winners and losers in the NFL.

Here are the MVPs for each Week 7 matchup, and since the best player of the game has to come from the winning team, the winner is included as well.

Tennessee Titans vs. Buffalo Bills MVP: Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Bills

1 of 12

Ryan Fitzpatrick has struggled the last two weeks, but he faced a tough San Francisco 49ers defense in Week 5 and a stingy Arizona Cardinals defense in Week 6.  Both of those games were on the road.

This week, Fitzpatrick is at home facing the 29th-ranked pass defense in the NFL.  Fitzpatrick has only been sacked seven times this season, so he is getting the ball out of his hands quickly and is protected well.  The Titans have only produced eight sacks this season.

Look for Fitzpatrick to have a 300-plus-yard passing game with two touchdowns.  The Bills will get their offense rolling and get a solid win versus the Titans at home.

Cleveland Browns vs. Indianapolis Colts MVP: Andrew Luck, QB, Colts

2 of 12

Andrew Luck is looking to bounce back from a tough game at the hands of the New York Jets.  Though the Colts are 2-3, each win has come after a loss.  Both of the Colts' wins are at home, and they are home this week versus the Browns.

The Browns have the 30th-ranked pass defense in the NFL and have given up 15 touchdowns through the air, which is tied for the most in the NFL.

Luck will get wide receiver Reggie Wayne involved more, and look for a breakout game for rookie tight end Coby Fleener, as Browns linebacker Scott Fujita is out with a neck injury.

Luck will throw for more than 250 yards, but will not throw an interception as the Colts keep their streak of winning after a loss alive.

Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants MVP: Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Giants

3 of 12

Ahmad Bradshaw has already missed time this season with injuries, but when the powerful runner is on the field, the Giants' offense is simply better.  Bradshaw has back-to-back 100-plus-yard games and has scored a rushing touchdown each of the past two weeks.

Bradshaw failed to rush for 60 yards in either game in 2011 versus the Redskins, and the Giants lost both games.  For the Giants to win Sunday, Bradshaw will need to stay at his 4.9-yard average per rush and gain more than 100 yards.

Though the Redskins are eighth in the NFL versus the rush, the Giants are at home and coming off an impressive win versus the San Francisco 49ers.  Bradshaw wins the MVP by going over the century mark and scoring a touchdown for the third consecutive week.

New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers MVP: Lance Moore, WR, Saints

4 of 12

Lance Moore is coming off an injury and is due for a breakout game.  Versus the 31st-ranked passing defense, Week 7 is the cure for what ails him.  Though he's been listed on the injury report all week with a hamstring injury, expect Moore to play and play well versus the Buccaneers.

Moore has only one 100 yards receiving game this season and has only scored two touchdowns this season.  With tight end Jimmy Graham not even making the trip, Moore will be quarterback Drew Brees' target across the middle.

Moore will be the star of the Saints' victory, catching no less than eight passes for more than 100 yards and at least one touchdown.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers MVP: Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys

5 of 12

Week 7 is the perfect time for Tony Romo to step up and be the leader of a dysfunctional Cowboys team that has lost back-to-back games.  While Romo has completed more than 67 percent of his passes in 2012, the former Eastern Illinois product has more interceptions than touchdowns.

The Panthers' defense, which is average at best, will be without starting linebacker Jon Beason and cornerback Chris Gamble.

Look for Romo to get the offense back on track and for the quarterback to have one of the best games of his professional career.  A 300-plus-yard game and multiple touchdown passes are not out of the question.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans MVP: Matt Schaub, QB, Texans

6 of 12

The Ravens' defense took a huge blow with the losses of cornerback Lardarius Webb and linebacker Ray Lewis.  Those losses will not help the 26th-ranked defense in the NFL.

Matt Schaub, coming off the Texans’ first loss of the year, is still looking for his first 300-yard passing game of 2012.  Schaub had his worst offensive output versus the Green Bay Packers in Week 6, but will bounce back versus the Ravens.

Look for Schaub to get running back Arian Foster and wide receiver Andre Johnson involved quickly in the passing attack.  Schaub will play his best game of the season, and the Texans will get a big win at home.

Green Bay Packers vs. St. Louis Rams MVP: Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers

7 of 12

Anytime an NFL quarterback throws for six touchdowns in a game, the guy is the MVP.  But Aaron Rodgers has uncanny ability to follow up great games with other good games, and versus the Rams, there is a very good possibility Rodgers could throw for five-plus touchdowns again.

The Rams do have the fifth-best passing defense in the NFL, but Rodgers seems to have taken all of the negative comments from his detractors seriously.  Rodgers and wide receiver Jordy Nelson appear to have gotten back on track and are a potent duo.

Look for Rodgers to have another huge game at the Rams' expense and expose the St. Louis secondary.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Minnesota Vikings MVP: Adrian Peterson, RB, Vikings

8 of 12

The Cardinals are 19th in the NFL against the run, allowing only 3.9 yards a rush.  Arizona has only allowed three rushing touchdowns and has not allowed a run of more than 40 yards.

All of that will change in Week 7 versus Adrian Peterson.  The former Oklahoma Sooner has only topped 100 yards on the ground once this season, but will surpass the century mark for the second time in 2012 on Sunday.

Peterson has 499 rushing yards on the season and is averaging 4.4 yards a carry.  Look for him to get into the end zone versus the Cardinals.

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots MVP: Tom Brady, QB, Patriots

9 of 12

In 2011, Tom Brady beat the Jets twice and threw for 650 total yards.  Brady also had four touchdowns against one interception versus the Jets last season.

Against an average Jets defense at home, look for Brady to have a game similar to the ones he produced last season.

Brady has thrown for the most yards in the NFL with 1,845 and has tossed 10 touchdowns.  He seems to have the Jets' number and will produce an MVP-type performance in the win this Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Oakland Raiders MVP: Darren McFadden, RB, Raiders

10 of 12

Darren McFadden had the most carries of the season last week with 27 and should get at least that many against one of the worst teams in the NFL this week.  The Jaguars are ranked 29th in total defense and 30th versus the run.

The Jaguars’ best defender, linebacker Daryl Smith, is out this week, and that makes the defense even more susceptible to the running game.

Look for McFadden to double his touchdown total for the season and top the century mark in rushing yards for only the second time in 2012.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals MVP: A.J. Green, WR, Bengals

11 of 12

Though the Steelers beat the Bengals in both regular-season matchups in 2011, A.J. Green scored a touchdown in each contest.  That scoring will carry over to this game, and with the help of his teammates, Green will get a win versus the Steelers.

The Steelers are again without safety Troy Polamalu, and this loss will be the major factor in the Bengals getting a win at home.  Quarterback Andy Dalton will take advantage of the Steelers' injuries and find Green deep all game long.

Green scored twice in Week 6 and should match that total in Week 7.  Green is in the top three in the league in every receiving category and will stay there after the Bengals beat the Steelers.

Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears MVP: Tim Jennings, CB, Bears

12 of 12

Tim Jennings is tied for the lead the NFL in interceptions and is facing a quarterback in Matthew Stafford who has been sporadic all season.  Stafford has more interceptions than touchdowns and will be facing one of the top defenses in the NFL.

Jennings seems to be getting better with each game and is a main cog in a defense that has only allowed 71 total points in 2012.  Jennings has four picks this season and will get No. 5 in the Bears' win versus the NFC North-rival Lions.
