NFL Week 7 Picks: Underdogs That Are Locks to Win on Sunday

Jun 5, 2018

It's been a good year for underdogs in the NFL. According to Covers.com, underdogs have been a highly impressive (and unusual) 57-32-2 against the spread in 2012.

This trend is a testament to the level of parity that the league has achieved which leads to close games, but it's also a trend fueled by a few upsets every week. Oddsmakers do their best to get these lines as close as possible but every week there are a few teams that inevitably break the mold.

Spotting these teams can be difficult to do and the stats more often than not point to the favorite. However, there are a few teams that will help the year of the underdog continue this week (all lines courtesy of Bovada).

Cleveland Browns (+2) Over Indianapolis Colts

Last week in Cleveland there was an especially awesome sign that stated "11-5 Starts Today." While that just may be a tad bit too optimistic, the Browns found themselves in the win column for the first time all year.

This week, getting the win will be slightly more difficult as they will venture away from the friendly confines of Cleveland Browns Stadium, but they will be taking on a Colts team that has battled inconsistency all season.

Going purely by momentum from last week, the Browns have the clear edge in this one. Cleveland took advantage of numerous Bengals turnovers in a 34-24 win, while the Colts made an anemic Jets offense look like the greatest show on turf in a 35-9 blowout loss.

The Colts are absolutely awful when it comes to stopping the run. If the Jets can score 35 against the Colts, then Trent Richardson and the Browns should also fare well against the Colts.

Tennessee Titans (+3) Over Buffalo Bills

The Titans are a really difficult team to figure out.

After six games, their record stands at 2-4 with all four losses coming by way of blowout. The Titans have been blown out by every good team they have played but hold two victories in tight affairs with the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Titans' win last week over the Steelers was no fluke. Chris Johnson showed signs of life for the first time all season and it would appear that he is ready to start producing again (at least to the level of your average NFL starter).

There couldn't be worse news for the Bills and their fans, as Buffalo is dead last in the league when it comes to stopping the run (173 yards per game). Expect Johnson to look even better this week as he propels the Titans to the best win of their season on the road against the Bills.

Washington Redskins (+6) Over New York Giants

When the Redskins come to New York on Sunday, it will have all the makings of a trap game for Tom Coughlin's squad.

The Giants are coming off of their biggest win of the season, a 26-3 thrashing of the San Francisco 49ers on the road, and have another big road test when they travel to Dallas next week. In between those two big road games are the dangerous Redskins.

The Redskins possess the second best running game in the NFL at 166 yards per game and have the offensive tools to keep up with the Giants' high-octane offense. If the Giants take this one lightly they will end up paying for it.

Washington beat New York on the road last season 23-10 and that was without Robert Griffin III at the helm. The Giants have looked great the last few weeks, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them inexplicably lose one here.

Expect Griffin and the 'Skins to utilize their running game and control the clock on their way to pulling Week 7's biggest upset.
