Week 7 Waiver Wire: Josh Gordon and WR Targets Worthy of Starting This Weekend

Patrick ClarkeJun 1, 2018

Josh Gordon, no that's not a successful NASCAR driver who races in a rainbow-painted stock car. I'm talking about the Cleveland Browns wide receiver who has reeled in three touchdowns since Week 5.

Midseason has arrived and fantasy owners are searching high and low for the next pass-catching gem who will turn their team's season around before its too late. Good news: You can stop searching.

There are a number of worthy starters balancing on the waiver wire this October, just waiting for you to come along and snag them up.

Let's take a closer look at a trio of waiver wire WR targets worthy of starting in Week 7.

Donnie Avery, Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts' second-leading receiver this year is Donnie Avery, a relatively unknown wideout in his fifth NFL season.

Avery caught four passes for 60 yards last week against the New York Jets, but should turn out an impressive performance against the Browns' 30th-ranked pass defense in Week 7. With Cleveland's No. 1 cornerback Joe Haden likely being the one tasked with stopping Reggie Wayne, Andrew Luck will certainly be looking for Avery down the field on Sunday.

He's only owned in eight percent of all ESPN fantasy leagues, which means he should be an easy addition for fantasy owners heading into this weekend.

Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon is only owned in 14 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues this fall, which is stunning considering that he has scored three touchdowns in the last two weeks.

Gordon made the most of his limited opportunities in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals, catching three balls for 99 yards and a score. Gordon is emerging as one of the league's best deep threats as well. His last three touchdowns have come from 20, 62 and 71 yards out.

Starting Gordon will give fantasy owners a shot at picking up some big yards from their WR slot in Week 7, even if for some reason Gordon doesn't end up in the end zone.

Kendall Wright, Tennessee Titans

I've been on the Kendall Wright bandwagon for a long time now, and although the Titans rookie hasn't found the end zone since Week 4 at Houston, he has been Matt Hasselbeck's favorite target since the veteran passer took over for Jake Locker under center.

Wright's 52 targets are 17 more than any other wide receiver on the team and speak to his sure-handedness.

Wright has 33 receptions for 285 yards and two touchdowns this season. Wright's 18 first downs are more than any other back or receiver on Tennessee's roster in 2012. Wright has caught at least four balls in each of Tennessee's last four games and is available in more than 85 percent of all ESPN fantasy leagues this week.
