Jaguars vs. Raiders: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Spread, Radio, Game Time and More

Richard LangfordOct 17, 2012

Either the Oakland Raiders or Jacksonville Jaguars will exit Week 7 of the NFL with two wins. I know, that's not exactly breaking news, but it encapsulates the magnitude of this game.

While both of these teams are essentially already out of the playoff race, there is still plenty they want to accomplish.

The Jaguars enter off a much-needed bye week that followed a two-week stretch in which they were outscored of 68-13.

Blaine Gabbert is terrible, and the defense is regressing. They need a better effort, or it is time to start planning for an overhaul.

Meanwhile, the Raiders enter off what may be their best performance of the season in their narrow loss in Atlanta. Their defense made huge strides in that game, and they will now look to build on that against an offense that is easily dominated.

Injury Report

At the time of publication, the official injury report was not available.

Check out NFL.com for the report, as it should become available sometime Wednesday afternoon, and it will update as the week goes on.

Fantasy Impact

It would take a special set of circumstances to leave Maurice Jones-Drew on the bench. Those circumstances are not occurring here. Start him.

Unless you are in a painfully deep league, forget about the rest of the Jaguars. Meanwhile, any Raider you have deserves consideration.

The Jaguars are 24th in yards allowed per pass and 23rd in passing yards allowed per game. So Denarius Moore is a definite start, tight end Brandon Myers is an option if you are in a bind there, and Carson Palmer should be considered a low-level starter.

The Jaguars are 30th in rushing yards allowed, and the Raiders will be trying hard to get Darren McFadden going, so while he is struggling, he is a good play here.

Jaguars Player To Watch: Maurice Jones-Drew

MJD is the Jaguars offense. His 408 rushing yards are all but 84 of the Jags rushing yards on the season, and his two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) is a third of the Jags' offensive touchdowns.

If Jacksonville is going to win, they need MJD to pave the way.

Raiders Player To Watch: Denarius Moore

Denarius Moore has developed into the clear No. 1 receiver on the Raiders. The second-year pro is fast and graceful, and he has great hands.

He is also getting better each week. Injuries kept him from the preseason and the regular season opener, which slowed his start to the season, but he has really been getting in the flow the last two games, where he has a combined nine catches for 175 yards and a touchdown.

Key Matchup: MJD vs. Raiders' Rush Defense

We discussed MJD's importance to the Jaguars. So it should be no surprise that this is the key to the game.

If the Raiders can consistently limit Jones-Drew, they will force the Jaguars into repeated passing downs, and any team will like its chances against the Jaguars if it is up to Gabbert to beat them.

On the Hot Seat: Blaine Gabbert, QB

In his second year, Gabbert's quarterback rating is almost eight points higher than where he finished last season, but considering that has him at just 73.3, he still needs to get drastically better.

He has a QBR of 38.6, which ranks him 28th in the league, and it is a number that looks even worse considering the Jaguars are not asking him to do much and defenses routinely gear up to stuff the run.

Gabbert must improve his footwork, decision-making process and his poise in the pocket.

Prediction: Raiders 24, Jaguars 17

With the Raiders defense springing to life last week, they are well prepared to assert their will against the Jaguars and ride the home-field advantage to a victory.
