Did Dana White Just Hear That Don King Is Coming to MMA?
Well folks, I have recently heard the news that Don King and a group of wealthy individuals have an organization with the three initials—RHM Productions. I have no idea what the initials stand for...Real Handy Money?
According to MMA Junkie, the group plans to put on a production by the end of the year.
For once, the UFC President Dana White and I, who share the same DW initials, may also share the same sense of fascinated horror at this situation.
How could this be?
For some reason, possibly my advancing senility, I thought that King was a bad, bad man.
My memory keeps struggling to recall the details (with very little success), though I seem to recall him representing a fighter, (Mike Tyson?) and leading him into bankruptcy and perhaps even more.
(Damn my memory and all those white patches of demylinated neurons anyway!).
I do remember, above all things, disliking his hair almost to the same degree that I hate the Donald Trump do.
Yuck! Give me a bald man any day.
Aside from his hair, I vaguely remember "jive talk" that I did not always understand—far worse than any slang that my students ever used.
Those things may not be what stirs up the feeling of loathing that unsettled my stomach when I read the news, but for someone like me who is ruled by gut feelings, it is enough that my body reacts to him.
There has to be another really good reason, even if I cannot remember it.
Gambling on his fighters, fixing fights, and single-handedly bringing about the demise of the sport of boxing?
What on earth was it that he did?
If Stoker isn't writing his own article on this, even as I am typing mine, I know that he will help me out and jog my memory, due to boxing being his forte.
Though I often give White a lot of heat, I cannot imagine that King will do much in improving the sport of MMA to win me over.
So, since my husband is asleep and never appreciated boxing either, I am left guessing as to why I have such a strong dislike of the man and before any one suggests it, it is not a matter of racial bias.
Few announcements have upset me more than this one, and I live in fear of what this will mean to my beloved sport.
Readers, feel free to reassure me.
Granny has a blue funk goin' on now!
