WWE: Why Ryback Is the Best Opponent for CM Punk at Hell in a Cell

Hector DiazJun 7, 2018

Ryback got his wish. He will be fed CM Punk at Hell in a Cell, WWE's upcoming pay-per-view, which takes place in two weeks.

WWE has been teasing this confrontation for weeks since John Cena is still recovering from elbow surgery.

But both Cena and Ryback have been part of the WWE Championship storyline thus far. Monday's contract signing revealed the direction WWE is taking as the pay-per-view approached, which is arguably the best decision for everyone involved.

John Cena is now able to fully recover instead of being rushed in a high-profile match against WWE Champion CM Punk. Throwing Cena in a match would have not only increased the likelihood of injury, but it would also have made for a subpar match given his current condition.

Ryback, in turn, gets pushed to the very top with a match against CM Punk.

Ryback's ascension to the top is more evident considering that Vince McMahon has been hyping the superstar ever since the chairman's return. Ryback went from competing in squash matches against jobbers to defeating current Intercontinental Champion The Miz to No. 1 contender in just a matter of weeks.

Vince McMahon’s idea to push Ryback has undeniably worked, as he is over with the fans. There is always one major drawback to a push as rushed as this one. That same momentum that pushes a certain superstar up can also bring them down.

Take Alberto Del Rio for example. After a year of being inserted in both major title pictures, he is no longer in any title picture, but he does have a Hell in a Cell match against Randy Orton

Vince McMahon and WWE must act fast on Ryback’s momentum before a decline in interest begins. Inserting him in the title picture makes sense considering the circumstances.

And although the WWE Championship may not necessarily change hands in two weeks, the mere possibility of it happening is more than enough to keep the focus on Ryback.
