Breaking news coming from the NFL. San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson has just signed a three-year contract extension with the Chargers. The terms are undisclosed.

There were rumors that the Chargers, who had over $8 million taken off of the cap room by Tomlinson’s contract, would cut LT if they did not reach a new contract.

Former San Diego Charger and teammate of Drew Brees had expressed hope in LT possibly becoming a Saint and reuniting with his old QB. It was looking possible that Tomlinson’s career in San Diego may have been over.

The fifth overall pick of the 2001 NFL draft is a five-time Pro Bowler, four-time first-team All Pro, two-time second team All Pro, and the 2006 NFL MVP.

He holds the record for overall touchdowns in a season with 31, rushing touchdowns in a season with 28, most points scored in a season with 186, and several other NFL and Chargers records. Tomlinson is 29 years old, though he turns 30 this June.
