Everybody Hates UFC's Junie Browning

Nate LawsonMar 10, 2009

I have noticed in the world of UFC that Junie Browning is hated by a lot of fans. I have also noticed that several readers and writers on this site do not like him too much either.

He was present at UFC 96, and after the Matt Brown massacre of Pete Selling, the cameras panned on the 23-year-old fighter.

Mike Goldberg pointed out Browning and some of his friends. Then, he proceeded to say, "Yeah, there are some people that love him, and many that don't," laughing while saying the second part.

The question at hand is why does everyone hate Browning?

I personally do not mind arrogant athletes, or should I say arrogant athletes who deliver. There is something really awesome about an athlete who can talk trash and guarantee victories, then actually carry through with said promises without being embarrassed like so many athletes with big mouths have been.

That being said, I think you can tell where I stand on this one. I think Browning is a good fighter with a lot of promise. His history is enough to prove that he has promise at least.

He was quite dominate on the Ultimate Fighter, both in the octagon and in the gym. However, he had several events where his anger and use of alcohol gave him a negative image.

When it comes to his professional record, well, there is a zero in the loss column. That is a good start, but he only has three wins. However, in all three of his fights, he has not seen the third round, ending two fights by submission and one by a brutal knockout kick.

Should we not love a guy who brings competition to the sport like Browning does, or at least has potential to? Well unfortunately, he really has not had much competition thus far.

Browning's next match-up will go a long way in showing everyone in the UFC what he can really offer. Browning is scheduled to fight Cole Miller (13-3) on UFC Fight Night 18 and is included on the main card.

What that means is that before you "hate on" Junie Browning, you are going to want to see exactly what this kid can do in UFC Fight Night 18. That will be his first true test, and a step in the right direction, or the direction he cannot afford to go in.
