Tulane Takes Five Game Win Streak to LSU

Corey GautreauxMar 19, 2008

The Green Wave hope to continue its five-game win streak tonight against LSU at Alex Box Stadium. Tulane enters the game with a 13-5 overall record, including a weekend sweep of Oakland University.

The LSU Tigers are looking to end its five-game slide. The Tigers have lost their last five, including a three-game sweep at Tennessee last weekend, after winning eleven of their first twelve games.

The Tigers are set to wear throwback uniforms, resembling those uniforms worn in the early 20th century, to commemorate the final season in Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers have 22 games remaining in the “old” Alex Box, before moving into the “new” Alex Box a couple of hundred yards away. Alex Box has been home to the Tigers since 1938, and is named after an LSU player that was killed fighting in World War II.

LSU leads the overall series 158-123-3, the first meeting occurring in 1893.  Although the Tigers held the edge during the 90’s, Tulane has bounced back and currently holds a 10-7 series advantage since 2001. Tulane beat LSU in both games last season by scores of 8-3 and 16-9.  The teams are scheduled to meet a second time at Tulane’s Turchin Stadium on April 22.

The Tigers will start Junior LHP Ryan Byrd. He is 1-1 on the season with a 8.80 ERA in 15.1 innings of work. He has given up three walks and struck out nine.
