For the Love of Chuck Liddell
This upcoming UFC bout is one of the most promising UFC cards in, well, three or four UFC pay-per view events. It is a co-main event featuring the likes of Anderson Silva and Chuck Liddell.
While they say this is a co-main event, is there any doubt that Silva will once again destroy his opponent? This leaves the former UFC light-heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell to step up and return to his formerly ferocious form.
Liddell is on quite the run, but it is a run in the wrong direction. You have to give him a break though. His last three fights have included quality competition, including Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
Nevertheless, winning is the only thing competitors and fans really care about in this sport. Well, maybe that is not the case in this instance.
Liddell is probably the fan favorite in all of his fights. No matter who he is fighting, it seems the fans believe he can do it, or at least pray to God that he can. So what are fans going to think about his upcoming fight against Shogun Rua?
Well, I would assume that people are going to pull for the Iceman. I know I am. With a powerful punch and a personality that fans love backing him up, it would be hard to root against him.
However, let's just say he loses this fight, something all Liddell fans hope does not happen. If he does indeed lose this bout, it will be a much longer road back to the UFC light-heavyweight belt contention for Liddell.
This is Liddell's biggest fight in the history of ,well, Chuck Liddell. He is facing a tenacious opponent with undeniable power and skill. But with the love of the fans, the "Iceman" might just be able to pull this one off. If he doesn't, he will still be a fan favorite and an ever present star in the world of mixed martial arts.
