10 Most Loved Chelsea Fan Chants You'll Hear at Stamford Bridge

Rachel BascomJun 7, 2018

There's a certain kind of atmosphere that only exists in the English Premier League.

It's quite hard to put your finger on exactly what it is, but if you said it was the sound of thousands of drunken fans hurling abuse in the form of a song, you might be close.

Of course, this is not unique to Stamford Bridge or even the EPL. But like every stadium, there are a few songs that you are guaranteed to hear at least once each week from the Chelsea faithful.

There are certainly more than 10 Chelsea chants, and the beautiful thing about most of them is that they are specific to each game or opponent.

This means that there are hundreds that could be included on a list like this. There are a few, however, that would probably rank as the most popular.

So, with that it mind, here are 10 songs that you are likely to hear every home game at Stamford Bridge.

Now, most football chants have a few swear words/general crude language in them, but Chelsea chants seem to have more than most. With that in mind, I will have to leave a couple out in order to keep it clean. And for some others, well, I think I can feel a cold coming on...

Carefree

1 of 10

Win, lose or draw, you are certain to hear this song multiple times during any Chelsea home game.

Sung to the tune of "Lord of the Dance," the lyrics are as follows:

Carefree, wherever you may be,

We are the famous CFC,

And we don't give a *cough*

Wherever you may be,

'Cause we are the famous CFC.

Sorry about that pesky cough...I'll let you use your imagination to fill in the blank.

We All Follow the Chelsea

2 of 10

Even to Leicester...

We all follow the Chelsea,

Over land and sea (and Leicester!)

We all follow the Chelsea,

On to victory.

(Altogether now!)

Repeat

10 Men Went to Mow

3 of 10

No one seems to be sure exactly how this one started, but now it's a must-sing for the Stamford Bridge faithful.

One man went to mow,

Went to mow a meadow,

One man and his dog (spot!)

Went to mow a meadow.

Two men went to mow,

Went to mow a meadow,

Two men, one man and his dog (spot!)

Went to mow a meadow.

And so on, until (standing):

Ten men went to mow,

Went to mow a meadow,

Ten men, nine men, eight men, seven men, six men, five men, four men, three men, two men, one man and his dog (spot!)

Went to mow a meadow.

By the time 10 is up, however, the bits in the middle are usually no more than mumbles. It will then be followed by a classic Chelsea clapping chant.

Keep the Blue Flag Flying High

4 of 10

Flying high up in the sky,

We'll keep the blue flag flying high,

From Stamford Bridge to Wembley,

We'll keep the blue flag flying high.

Sung to the tune of "O Christmas Tree."

Super Frankie Lampard

5 of 10

If the Daily Mail reports are to be believed, this could be Frank Lampard's last season at Stamford Bridge.

Regardless, Chelsea fans will always get a lot of use out of this simple chant:

Super, Super Frank,

Super, Super Frank,

Super, Super Frank,

Super Frankie Lampard

The Liquidator

6 of 10

The reggae song, recorded by the Harry J. Allstars in 1969, has been played before Chelsea matches for decades now.

It is accompanied by clapping and a loud chant of "Chelsea" by everyone in the stadium.

It has become the standard way for the Blues to get ready for a match.

Blue Is the Colour

7 of 10

The anthem.

Although it is not usually sung during the game itself, no Chelsea home game would be complete without a few renditions of this classic song.

Blue is the colour, football is the game,
We're all together, and winning is our aim,
So cheer us on through the sun and rain,
'cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.

Here at the Bridge whether rain or fine,
We can shine all the time,
Home or away, come and see us play,
You're welcome any day.

Blue is the colour, football is the game,
We're all together, and winning is our aim,
So cheer us on through the sun and rain,
'cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.

Come to the Shed and we'll welcome you,
Wear your blue and see us through,
Sing loud and clear until the game is done,
Sing Chelsea everyone.

Chelsea, Chelsea

8 of 10

Probably the simplest chant you will ever hear, but once the whole stadium gets going, it is sure to give you goosebumps.

Blue Day

9 of 10

Back in the day, it was custom to record a song for the FA Cup should your team be in the final. This offering came courtesy of Suggs & Co. in 1997, featuring some members of the Chelsea team.

It harks back to a time when trophies were rare at Stamford Bridge. Now the fans sing it with relish before home games.

The only place to be
Every other Saturday
Is strollin' down the Fulham Road
Meet your mates and have a drink
Have a moan and start to think
Will there ever be a blue tomorrow?

We've waited so long
But we'd wait for ever
Our blood is blue and
We would leave you never
And when we make it
It'll be together

Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We're gonna make this a Blue Day
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We're gonna make this a Blue Day

We've got some memories
Albeit from the Seventies when
Ossie & Co restored our pride
Now we've got hope, and a team, suddenly it's not a dream
We'll keep the Blue Flag flying high

We've waited so long
But we'd wait for ever
Our blood is blue and
We would leave you never
And when we make it
It'll be together

Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We're gonna make this a Blue Day
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We're gonna make this a Blue Day

Now even Heaven
Is Blue today, you should
Hear the Chelsea roar
Hear the Chelsea roar
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We're gonna make this a Blue Day
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We're gonna make this a Blue Day

Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We're gonna make this a Blue Day!

Celery

10 of 10

I couldn't finish the list without a mention of this fan favorite.

I won't include a lyrics or a video, because, frankly, it's a little gross.

But it has become common for Chelsea fans to bring celery to the last home game of the season and chuck it around.

It is a tradition that caused officials to ban the vegetable from the ground after several Arsenal players complained about getting hit by flying celery during a match.
