India's First Test

India played their first three day Test against England in 1932. Here's an analysis India's first Test.

The Indian team was not very strong in batting but did put up a good performance in bowling.

A look at at the Indian team...  

Mohammad Nissar was India's first pacer. He bagged five wickets in India's first Test(also his debut) and in the six Tests he played, he had three five-wicket hauls. He was one of the best pacers India ever produced.

C.K.Naydu was India's first captain. He was the highest scorer from India in the first innings (40). He scored 350 runs including two fifties in the seven matches he played.

J.G.Navle was India's first wicket keeper opener. He was neither a good keeper nor a good opener. He scored just 42 runs and took just one catch in the two matches he played, his highest score being 13.

Naoomal Jaoomal was a good batsman who scored 108 runs in just three Tests. He was a legbreak bowler but unfortunately he only took two wickets in his career.

L. Amar Singh was a great bowler. He got 28 wickets in seven matches he played, including a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul. He made 51 runs in India's second innings and took four wickets in the match.

M.Jahangir Khan was a good bowler he picked up four wickets in England's second innings and that was all he did in his whole career. S.Wazir Ali was a batsman who scored 237 runs in his career. He made 31 in the first and 39 in the second innings.

S.M.H. Colah was a batsman who was good at first class cricket but only managed to score 69 runs in his Test career. He played only two matches.

S. Nazir Ali was a pacer who played just two matches and got four wickets. He had just one four wicket haul to his name. P.E. Palia was the batsman who got 29 runs in two Tests he played.

Lall Singh played just one match and scored 44 runs in it. He made 15 in the first innings and 29 in the second innings.

Here's a look at India's performance in its first Test.

England won the toss and elected to bat. The made 259 runs in their first innings. D.R.Jardine(79) and L.E.G.Ames made half centuries and W.G. Hammond and R.W.v.Robins chipped in with 35 and 21 respectively

Indian pacer Nissar had bowling figures of 26 3 93 5. The rest of the bowlers got the remaining wickets. Only one batsman was run out.

In return India were all out for 189. W.E.Bowes grabbed four quick wickets and W.Voce grabbed three very quick wickets.

In their second innings, England made 275 and set India a target of 346.

Jahangir Khan grabbed four wickets.

In their second innings India were all out after making just 187 runs.

Bowes, Voce and Brown grabbed two wickets each and Hammond grabbed four wickets.

India lost by 158 runs.
