NFL News: Ryan Longwell Is the Solution to the Washington Redskin Kicking Woes
The Billy Cundiff era in Washington has hardly been Mark Mosley-esque, and it could be over almost as soon as it began.
The Redskins kicking situation has been a mess since bringing in the veteran Cundiff before the final preseason game this season. After Cundiff was handed the job, the Redskins released Graham Gano, the team's kicker since 2010, and Neil Rackers as well.
But now, it is reported by Chick Hernandez of Comcast SportsNet, that the Redskins are holding kicker tryouts tomorrow at the team facility in Ashburn. The tryouts are a result of Cundiff missing two 31-yard field goals and one 41-yard attempt the last two weeks.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Cundiff has only hit on 7 of his 12 attempts (58%) this season. And if the Redskins think they can make a run at the playoffs, that's a stat that needs to drastically improve.
There are several notable free agent kickers on the market. The following stats are from the 2010 and 2011 seasons:
| Name | Age | FG% 20-29 | FG% 30-39 | FG% 40-49 | FG% 50+ | Overall FG% |
| Graham Gano | 24 | 88% (22-25) | 56% (9-16) | 76% (19-25) | 44% (4-9) | 72% (54-75) |
| Neil Rackers | 36 | 100% (22-22) | 95% (21-22) | 60% (9-15) | 77% (7-9) | 86% (59-68) |
| Josh Brown | 33 | 94% (18-19) | 58% (18-21) | 71% (15-21) | 50% (3-6) | 80% (54-67) |
| Olindo Mare | 39 | 89% (17-19) | 81% (13-16) | 81%( 13-16) | 25% (1-4) | 81% (47-58) |
| Billy Cundiff | 32 | 100% (10-10) | 76% (13-17) | 76% (10-13) | 12% (1-8) | 71% (35-49) |
| Ryan Longwell | 38 | 100% (14-14) | 88% (15-17) | 66% (8-12) | 66% (2-3) | 84% (39-46) |
But there is one name that the Redskins should go after.
Ryan Longwell, who was cut by the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason after the team drafted Blair Walsh in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft, is currently 12th all-time in field goals made (361) and career field goal percentage (83.18%). Longwell was 22 for 28 in field goals for the Vikings last season, including a perfect 14 for 14 between 20 and 29 yards the last two seasons, and was two for three from beyond 50 yards last year. Longwell was projected to be the starting placekicker for the Vikings in 2012 with Walsh's big leg handling kickoff duties, but the Vikings didn't have room for two kickers on their roster.
It would also be fitting for Longwell to face his former Minnesota Vikings teammates this week and make Vikings GM Rick Spielman regret the his decision to let Longwell walk.
It is unconfirmed who will be at Redskins tryouts tomorrow, but fully expect Ryan Longwell to be on Redskins GM Bruce Allen's list of kickers to call.
