UFC on FX 5 Results: Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson Head-to-Toe Breakdown

Riley KontekJun 7, 2018

Speedsters are set to meet for the newly minted flyweight championship, as king of the hill Demetrious Johnson meets top contender John Dodson.

Dodson earned his shot at Johnson with a win over Jussier da Silva at UFC on FX 5. He finished the Brazilian in the second round with strikes.

Here is the head-to-toe breakdown.

Striking

1 of 4

There are few in the lighter weight classes that are as quick as these two, especially when it comes to the striking game.

Demetrious Johnson proved that he is an improved striker that isn't afraid to throw hands, feet and knees. His quickness often helps him, but John Dodson is just as quick, if not quicker.

Dodson is always moving and has big power for a little guy. He has two UFC knockout wins, as he knocked out TJ Dillashaw in his debut and Jussier da Silva to be the top contender.

Dodson easily is the better striker here.

Wrestling

2 of 4

Demetrious Johnson is one of the best wrestlers in the flyweight division in general, so this one is pretty obvious.

It must be added, though, that it is tough to get John Dodson down. Just when you think you have him, he either stays up or gets taken down just to pop up.

If there is a guy that will drag Dodson down, it is Johnson. I would say this is a push, but Johnson's offense is top notch.

Edge: Johnson

Grappling/Submissions

3 of 4

Both men have good grappling ability. The difference is that Johnson is a better top-game grappler, while Dodson can do it either way.

Both men are educated in the submission game, so a submission grappling match would be interesting. Johnson's wrestling is definitely strong, while Dodson's ability to get to his feet is uncanny.

There is no way I can chose who is better here.

Prediction

4 of 4

I don't think this fight can be boring. These guys are just too athletic and fast to have a boring fight.

This fight will see striking, takedowns and both guys showing big hearts. It is a lot closer than people think and has the ability to go either way.

I see Johnson mixing up clinch, takedowns and striking to keep Dodson off balance. Dodson will definitely have his moments, making it tough on the judges.

In the end, we will go to a decision, and I think Johnson will get the slight advantage.

Prediction: Johnson def. Dodson via decision
