Professional Wrestling's Biggest Heel: Bully Ray or CM Punk?

Daniel PeragineJun 7, 2018

Bully Ray is hands down the best heel in professional wrestling.

Why do I write this so confidently? Since breaking apart from his longtime tag team partner Devon, Ray has enjoyed his best success in the ring as a singles wrestler. He has developed into an entertaining heel character who can draw plenty of heat with live audiences wherever TNA holds an event. Ray is also very effective when talking on the microphone and has performed well in the ring.

However, CM Punk is another talented wrestling star who has played his heel figure well on WWE television. Punk, who holds the WWE Championship title, could certainly challenge Ray as the biggest and baddest heel in professional wrestling, but unfortunately is not on Ray's current level of success.

Yes, current level of success. Hard to believe? Here is why:

Despite holding the edge with the WWE Championship title around his waist, Punk is limited due to the company's current TV-PG programming. Meanwhile, Ray has the ability to do what Punk can not perform on WWE television.

Ray is extremely aggressive with his character as a loud mouth bully who can easily intimidate anyone in his way. His actions both inside and outside the ring when performing have excited wrestling fans to watch his character continue to grow over the past year.

Meanwhile, Punk is a straight edge wrestling star who demands respect. However, his certain limitations holds back his potential to be a bigger heel than Ray. Although a good story can be told in a TV-PG environment, Punk could go further on a more adult oriented program like Impact! Wrestling. However, Punk holds one thing over Ray and that is having a title around his waist.

Although Bobby Roode could be thrown into this category because of his long-reigning TNA Heavyweight title run, Ray brings a certain aspect that elevates over almost, if not, everyone in the professional wrestling business. Ray has certain advantages and being able to witness him in a new role helps put excitement on TNA's product. Punk is the same way, as his unexpected heel turn could elevate him into a feud with The Rock for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble.

Punk could easily be said to be the biggest heel figure in professional wrestling. After all, he is currently a top star in the WWE, which is the No. 1 company in professional wrestling in the United States. However, Ray is wrestling's biggest heel character. Even with no title to hold, Ray represents a perfect image of a mean bully who enjoys picking on others and having him on a different television product with less limitations helps his case.

Just imagine if Punk and Ray were with the same company...
