Start Em Sit Em Week 5: Breaking Down This Week's Tough RB Choices

Mike MoraitisJun 7, 2018

After the Monday Night Football game between the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys is played, fantasy football owners will begin making decisions about which players they will either start or sit in Week 5.

The running back position is one of the most vital positions to fill on a fantasy team, so owners must be careful in choosing the right backs to start this upcoming week.

Let's take a look at some top backs and whether or not you should sit 'em or start 'em.

Steven Jackson: St. Louis Rams

Jackson was only able to gain 55 yards on the ground in the Rams' win over the Seattle Seahawks, but don't expect Week 5 to be any better for the Rams' back.

Jackson has been battling injuries so far this season, something that has become all too familiar for the 29-year-old. If that's the case, Jackson might not get his full workload and in turn, not gain as many yards as he potentially could.

The Rams will see the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 and that doesn't bode well for them offensively. The Cards have a solid defense and even kept the Miami Dolphins explosive running back, Reggie Bush, in check.

Don't expect Jackson to break the mold this week and that makes sitting him the best bet.

Cedric Benson: Green Bay Packers

Benson had a solid Week 4 showing against the New Orleans Saints and that success should continue in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Coming into this game, the Colts are ranked 25th against the run this season and that will give Benson a legitimate shot to not only contribute, but have a huge day as well.

Indianapolis will have to respect Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' lethal passing attack, opening the door for Benson to have some space to pick up solid yardage on the ground.

If Indy decides to try and cheat, look for the Packers to make their Week 5 opponents pay by pounding the rock, looking to exploit the Colts' biggest weakness over and over again.

Jamaal Charles: Kansas City Chiefs

It might be tempting to start Charles considering he's had two good weeks in a row, but as we all know, all good things must come to an end.

The Chiefs will be taking on the Baltimore Ravens' tough defense in Week 5 and will have a rough time moving the ball on the ground as a result.

KC might be forced to abandon the running game if it can't get going and that will leave Charles with fewer carries and less yardage. The Ravens' biggest weakness on defense is defending the pass, so look for the Chiefs to try and exploit that weakness.

Charles could be limited in Week 5 if Kansas City tries to win this game through the air, but even if that doesn't happen, Charles will still have a rough time trying to make things happen against a defense that is ranked 11th against the run.

Maurice Jones-Drew: Jacksonville Jaguars

Even without mentioning how good the Chicago Bears' defense is, it's worth noting that the Jags are a one-dimensional offense with all the trouble Blaine Gabbert has moving the ball through the air.

It won't get any easier for Jacksonville in Week 5 versus Chicago. The Bears are ranked sixth against the pass and run.

Combining all of these factors means that Chicago will focus on stopping the run, namely Jones-Drew, because they don't have to respect the Jags passing attack at all.

With all the focus on Jones-Drew defensively, he doesn't figure to have a big day against Chicago.
