Kelly Kelly Released: Is This the End of the Diva's Division?

Cody GuinnSep 28, 2012

Is has been one rough week for the WWE Diva's division as today it was announced via WWE.com that former WWE Diva's Champion Kelly Kelly had been released from the WWE.

Kelly Kelly had been taking some time off from the WWE until she made her return in August against Eve Torres picking up the win. Kelly Kelly also made an appearance at SummerSlam dancing with other Diva's during the live performance from Kevin Rudolf.

She was always regarded as one of the best looking women in the WWE, but as time went on, she was constantly improving in-ring and reached the pinnacle of success winning the Diva's Championship on an episode of Raw in June against Nikki Bella.

The release was said to be mutual but she had told friends that is was unlikely she would be returning at any time soon when she first asked for a leave of absence.

"

The news isn't good for the future of the diva's division in the WWE as it was announced earlier by PWInsider.com this week that Beth Phoenix is expected to retire from the WWE at the end of October.

Also, it was rumored that one of the top up-and-coming NXT divas Shaul Guerrero had left the company, but once again according to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline, this may be false:

"

Another woman who was reported here as leaving the company, and was taken off the NXT web site, Shaul Guerrero aka Raquel Diaz, is still under contract to WWE.

"

One has to wonder if we are witnessing the beginning of the end of the WWE diva's division and it appears to be so.

If you remember about a month ago, it was reported that Triple H, who many believe will be the next in-charge, wanted to push the tag team division and feature less divas. So, with the recent happenings in the WWE, it appears we may be witnessing that move right now.

I'm all for improving the overall brand and losing Kelly Kelly isn't the end of the world, but I hope Triple H and company will focus more on top wrestling talent such as there was during his time on top as champion in the early 2000's. For now, we'll wait and take witness to what seems to be an overhaul leading into the next era of the WWE.
