Ryder Cup 2012: Day-by-Day Pairings, Team Matches and Singles Matchup Info
There weren't many surprises by either captain during the announcement of the initial pairings of the 2012 Ryder Cup, as big names Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy won't be facing off just yet.
Red-hot Brandt Snedeker and Jim Furyk will square off with McIlroy and Graeme McDowell in what figures to be the best matchup of the set. Snedeker is hot after his FedEx Cup victory, and Davis Love III will ride his hot hand against the No. 1 golfer in the world.
The 2012 Ryder Cup is scheduled to get off to a great start tomorrow when action is set to begin, as the United States looks to recapture some of its past glory by taking home a victory.
Ready to lead them into battle is Love III, with a formidable mix of veteran and emerging talent. For Europe, captain José Maria Olazábal looks to capitalize off of some hot performances and, on paper, the most talent of the opposing teams.
Pairings were announced during the captain's speeches, and some of the matchups are very intriguing not only for the outcome of the event, but for the implications they have in the golf community.
Here's a comprehensive look at each of the singles, fourball matches and foursomes of this year's event, the latter of which is set to open up Ryder Cup play on Friday morning at 8:20 a.m. ET at Medinah Country Club in Illinois.
FOURSOMES (alternate shot)
| UNITED STATES | EUROPE |
Jim Furyk/Brandt Snedeker vs. Rory McIlroy/Graeme McDowell (7:20 a.m. ET)
Phil Mickelson/Keegan Bradley vs. Luke Donald/Sergio Garcia (7:35 a.m. ET)
Jason Dufner/Zach Johnson vs. Lee Westwood/Fransesco Molinari (7:50 a.m. ET)
Tiger Woods/Steve Stricker vs. Ian Poulter/Justin Rose (8:05 a.m. ET)
The opening and anchor matches for the two teams certainly add some flavor to this year's Cup, with McIlroy and Woods being asked to do different things for their teams.
Rookie Keegan Bradley gets to play with Mickelson, who hopes to provide some veteran leadership amid questions of whether or not this is his last Ryder Cup appearance. Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson were somewhat of a surprise exclusion of the list, but they'll have a chance to help the U.S. soon enough.
