Lakers Fans Should Rebel Against St. Patrick's Day
If you are a Lakers fan, like me, you are probably starting to become a little like the great Jerry West or the ok Sasha Vujucic and hate the color green. It’s the beginning of March and St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. Even before I became a Lakers fan (LAL fan since Shaq signed with them in 1996), I never really celebrated that holiday mostly because I don’t collect green clothing. Every year the day comes around and it hits me that I really don’t buy anything green.
Now, since everything is close to right in the NBA universe, with the Lakers & the Celtics being great teams again (the circle would be complete if NYK & CHI got back to elite status also), my indifference for the color is turning into a plain dislike for all things green. I jokingly got on my brother for wearing his two favorite colors at the same time, because in my mind, green and purple should never get along (he’s also a Kevin Garnett fan).
My idea is this, if you are a Lakers fan, then on this St. Patrick’s Day I encourage you to rebel against the normal societal thing to do and not wear green. In fact, don’t just start there, deck yourself out in purple & gold or wear any or all of your Lakers apparel that makes sense to wear all at once.
I’m not prejudice against the Irish or trying to discourage you from drinking green beer that night, but in my mind, for all of us who can’t stand the Celtics, this should be anti-green day (and I’m not talking about the band). And this, for anyone one else who had their team embarrassed by the Big three. If you are annoyed with them, wear your favorite team colors instead of green, also.
For those of you who are Celts fans, this can also be the day to throw it into all of our faces that they are the champs (for now) and represent your ‘Celtic Pride’. For the rest of us Lakers fans, March 17th is purple & gold day.
