Week 4 Waiver Wire: Top Fantasy Players to Add Via Free Agency Following Waivers

Alex KaySep 27, 2012

Waiver wire positioning is one of the most important and advanced strategies that a fantasy football player can employ.

Knowing when to strike with your waiver selection and when to risk hanging back and waiting is what separates the chumps from the gurus.

Let’s take a look at a few players you should add in Week 4, but only if it doesn’t come at the expense of your waiver positioning.

These players are great for free agency additions, but don’t lose a choice spot in the waiver order to pick them up.

Tashard Choice, RB, Buffalo Bills

With C.J. Spiller going down in Week 3 and Fred Jackson still recovering from a Week 1 injury, the Bills are left with Choice as the best option out of the backfield.

However, the former Cowboy is only going to get a handful of games to show off his stuff, as Spiller and Jackson are both set to return in a few weeks.

He’s a great temporary play as a low-end starting RB because of the circumstances. Buffalo is going to run the ball, and Choice will be the recipient of a majority of the carries in Week 4 against the New England Patriots.

Christian Ponder, QB, Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings signal-caller has yet to throw a single interception on the season, and has completed 68-of-97 passes for 713 yards and four touchdowns in 2012. He’s also scrambled 11 times for 41 yards and a TD.

Those aren’t bad numbers at all, and if your starting QB is disappointing, give the former Florida State standout a roster spot.

While it’s not worth wasting a waiver pick on Ponder, he’s a great backup to pluck from the pool in a bye-week crunch.

Lawrence Tynes, K, New York Giants

The G-Men’s kicker is having the best season of any in the league. He’s nailed all 10 of his attempts, including two from 40 to 49 yards out.

He’s also a perfect 8-of-8 on his XP tries and seems absolutely automatic in 2012.

Kickers are never worth a waiver spot, but upgrading to Tynes from a disappointment—like Alex Henery or another oft-drafted player—should be a priority in free agency.
