NFL Odds Week 4: Games That Will Come Down to the Wire

Sanjay KirpalaniJun 3, 2018

Aside from Monday night’s fiasco ending between the Packers and Seahawks, Week 3 of the NFL season drew headlines for having several games that were not decided until the final buzzer.

Three games went into overtime last week, while another six were won by margins of seven points or less.

On paper, Week 4 has its share of contests that appear to mismatches.

However, there are a handful of games that could end up with thrilling finishes.

Which games have the best chance to provide drama until the end?

Here are six games that will come down to the wire.

San Diego at Kansas City – 1

1 of 6

Prediction: San Diego 34, Kansas City 31

This AFC West battle features two clubs coming in opposite directions in terms of momentum.

The Chargers limp into Arrowhead Stadium after being thumped by the Falcons at home, while the Chiefs scored a thrilling overtime victory on the road in New Orleans.

With this game nearly being even in terms of the spread, the slight nod appears to be given to the home team.

However, with the Chiefs defense allowing an average of 33 points per game, the Chargers should stand a great chance to win in what should become a shootout.

Seattle -2.5 at St. Louis

2 of 6

Prediction: Seattle 21, St. Louis 20

After an awful showing on the road against the Bears, the Rams head home for a division matchup against the suddenly resurgent Seahawks.

The Seahawks' nasty defense is a bit less ferocious on the road, and the Rams offense looked much better in its only win this season—two weeks ago at home in a 38-31 win over the Redskins.

With Seattle coming off an emotional win and having a shorter week to prepare for a road game, the Rams have a great shot to catch them off guard.

Oakland at Denver -6.5

3 of 6

Prediction: Denver 31, Oakland 28

The AFC West tilt features a pair of teams sporting 1-2 records.

However, the Raiders offense finally got untracked in last weekend’s 34-31 victory over the Steelers.

On the other hand, Peyton Manning and the Broncos have stumbled out of the gate and looked miserable in the first half in each of Denver’s last two games.

A porous Raiders defense could be the cure to Manning’s woes, but Carson Palmer and the offense should be able to build on last week's performance enough to keep this one close.

Washington at Tampa Bay -3

4 of 6

Prediction: Washington 34, Tampa Bay 27

Both the Redskins and the Bucs have suffered narrow defeats in each of their last two games.

This game could come down to which quarterback makes the fewest mistakes.

The Redskins offense has averaged 33 points per game thanks to Robert Griffin III’s blistering start to his rookie season.

With Josh Freeman still showing signs of inconsistency, the edge appears to be in favor of RGIII and the Skins in this one.

NY Giants at Philadelphia -2

5 of 6

Prediction: NY Giants 27, Philadelphia 24

This NFC East rivalry has featured several close games in recent memory, and this game should continue that trend.

Despite their 2-1 start, the Eagles have had issues with turnovers, and that finally caught up to them in last week’s loss at Arizona.

The Giants defense flustered Cam Newton into several miscues in last week’s rout of the Panthers, and they should use the same blueprint to get after Michael Vick

Chicago at Dallas -3.5

6 of 6

Prediction: Dallas 20, Chicago 17

The Bears and the Cowboys have been two teams that are simply consistent at being inconsistent.

That logic could also describe the careers of enigmatic quarterbacks Jay Cutler and Tony Romo.

However, with the Bears’ issues finding a healthy running back and an offensive line that has been woeful in protection, the Cowboys defense should get the upper hand at home.
