Knowshon Moreno: Updated Fantasy Profile, Outlook After Willis McGahee Injury

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

Not too long ago, many didn't think Knowshon Moreno would make the Denver Broncos' 53-man roster.

His fantasy stock?

Nonexistent.

Now, with Willis McGahee injuring his ribs in the Week 3 loss to the Houston Texans, the 2009 first-round pick may get another chance to shine.

According to The Denver Post, head coach John Fox said McGahee is "day-to-day" and that his injury "involved cartilage."

So, what does this all mean for Moreno's fantasy viability in the future?

Fantasy Profile

Moreno was relegated to the No. 3 running back for much of the Broncos' training camp and preseason. His inability to stay healthy coupled with fumbling issues and the same burst he had upon entering the NFL led to the demotion.

While the Georgia alum should see and increase in carries and overall touches in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders, there's a good chance Lance Ball will actually start the game.

Now that rookie lightning bug Ronnie Hillman is finally healthy, he'll likely cut into Moreno's action as well.

As it stands right now, Moreno has received eight carries and has 15 yards rushing in the Broncos' first two games. However, he did reach the end zone in Week 1.

He was inactive against the Texans.

Outlook

As Rotoworld.com astutely pointed out, "rib cartilage injuries are tough for running backs because they often involve severe pain when hit."

While McGahee hasn't been ruled out of Sunday's game, don't be stunned if the Broncos go the precautionary route with their workhorse runner.

Therefore, a running back-by-committee approach will likely be implemented in Peyton Manning's offense.

Unfortunately for Moreno, McGahee's injury only minimally benefits his fantasy stock. There are two other serviceable backs who'll likely be utilized by Denver, and there's nothing to say Moreno will have a breakout game in the coming weeks.
