Digesting the Terrell Owens Release and Crafting a List of Suitors

James ParkerMar 5, 2009

I am not quite sure how to feel about this.

It would be easy to go with the, "You dug our own grave T.O," approach. It would be just as easy to go with, "Well, you knew what you were getting into Jerry Jones", approach as well. But was it actually perfect timing for this to happen?

Did they cut him before the team imploded? I think so. Did they cut him while he could have still played at a high level? I think so. Did they cut him with capable receivers on the team? I think so. Will a Owens-less Romo see his numbers drop, and find it harder to get the ball to his best friend Witten? I think so.

It's hard to say whether they should have done it or not. But kudos to Double J and the Cowboys for biting the bullet. He lost money, and a great player for the sake of the team.

"So where does Terrell 'The Destroyer' Owens go from here?"

I'm glad you asked...

STEELERS

I'm not sure if the Steelers will continue its passing ways when Parker, and Mendenhall are healthy. But one thing is for sure, it proved to be pretty fruitful. And with Hines ward just about out the door, T.O would be the go-to guy.

Also, they seem to me as one of the few teams that could probably deal with a personality like T.O's. Tomlin seems like a no B.S. dude.

CHARGERS

The chargers May or may not feel the need to have another No. 1 receiver opposite Jackson. But it's clear Chambers has already seen his prime come and go. I'm not sure what to expect from the run game this year with Tomlinson on the decline. Sproles showed he can run, and run well.

But can he handle the load? I think the chargers pass even more this year, adopting the Pass to Run scheme. And with Owens, Jackson, and gates. Passing is a good idea.

SAINTS

New Orleans has seen Marques Colston in street clothes more than pads since his surprise rookie season. Luckily, other players have stepped up. Henderson may be the best deep ball receiver in the league averaging 24.8 yards per catch.

Lance Moore is the most underrated, and over achieving receiver in the game right now. Shockey and Reggie Bush will come back healthy, and Pierre Thomas has shown he can run.

Drew Brees almost broke Dan Marino's single season passing yardage record last year. Adding T.O. would make breaking that record just that, a Brees.

REDSKINS

Washington is probably the unlikeliest suitor on this list for the simple reason of money. After splurging on Haynesworth and Hall, Snyder (the 'skins owner) has to be on the corner taking handouts.

But if there is one place T.O would like to go, it would be somewhere that he can see the Cowboys twice. And you better believe with the media Golden boy Favre gone, the NFL has his fingers crossed for this scenario.
