The Washington Redkins Must Sign Terrell Owens

Jarrett CarterMar 5, 2009

If the Washington Redskins don’t sign Terrell Owens, then they’ve completely destroyed their own approach to free agency. Their history is one of going after the most well-known talent available, regardless of age, temperament, or dwindling skill set.

Signing Terrell Owens would be right up the Washington Redskins' alley. Not just because the Redskins fancy aging players with diminished abilities, but because he was released by the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.

By my count, those are two vendettas that could possibly shift the balance in four games per year over the next two or three seasons.

Even if he goes after Jason Campbell, even if he calls out Jim Zorn, it’s worth the production T.O. will bring in the first year of his contract.

Terrell Owens is always on his best behavior in his first season with a team, and usually falls apart in the second half of his second season. If the Redskins can’t get at least a second-place finish in the NFC East and a playoff win over that timetable, then something is wrong.

If they can’t maximize Terrell Owens's ability to put fans in the stands and to take pressure away from the line of scrimmage to open up things for Clinton Portis, then something is wrong.

The Redskins owe it to their fans to go after T.O. It’s the least they could do after so many failed attempts at aging superstars.

At least go for the one who can bring the cameras in, catch a few touchdowns, and legitimately make rooting for Washington a thrill ride with a less-predictable ending than in years' past.
