BCS Predictions: 10 Teams Most Likely to Go Undefeated in Regular Season
We are now a month into the college football season, and fans are finally starting to get a feel for the true identity of each team. However, there are still many more games to be played, and even more questions to be asked and answered as the season progresses.
At least for now, though, it feels like we have a pretty good grasp on how good each team is.
With that being said, here is a look at the 10 teams who have the best chance at running the table this year and playing for a national championship.
Louisville Cardinals
1 of 10It may be surprising to see the Louisville Cardinals on this list—but why not? As is usually the case, the Big East Conference is very weak this year, and so far Louisville has shown that it is a good football team.
With quarterback Teddy Bridgewater leading the charge, Louisville has its sights set on a berth in the Orange Bowl. But could the Cardinals go even further?
The Cardinals' schedule is very weak, with the toughest test coming at the end of the year against Rutgers. If the Cardinals can continue to play solid and consistent football, then they could find themselves chasing a perfect season at the end of the year.
West Virginia Mountaineers
2 of 10Any team that features an offense as explosive as the one in Morgantown could potentially go undefeated. With quarterback and Heisman-hopeful Geno Smith leading the way, the Mountaineers could quickly find themselves in the national title conversation.
The biggest concern, though, will be the West Virginia defense. The unit has given up a lot of points to subpar offenses, and will need to step up its game if WVU wants to be a title contender.
A tough schedule awaits West Virginia down the stretch, but if the Mountaineers can persevere through a few games over the next month, they will find themselves in prime position for a chance at a perfect regular season.
Kansas State Wildcats
3 of 10Kansas State is another team from the Big 12 who has a legitimate chance of running the table during the regular season. The Wildcats got a huge win on the road over the Oklahoma Sooners Saturday night, and will be looking to build off it as they continue conference play.
Much like the Mountaineers, the Wildcats have a very tough schedule, but the potential is there for a perfect regular season. Kansas State and West Virginia meet on October 20 in Morgantown. Look for the winner of that game to be in the national title discussion for the remainder of the season.
Ohio State Buckeyes
4 of 10Of all the teams in the Big Ten, Ohio State has been the most impressive so far. The Buckeyes will get their first true test when they travel to Michigan State, but a victory could mean that Urban Meyer's club is in for a very special regular season.
Many people did not expect much from the Buckeyes after they were hit with some tough NCAA sanctions last season. However, with quarterback Braxton Miller playing at such a high level, Ohio State could return to the top much earlier then expected.
Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, they are banned from bowl games this year, but they could prove to a lot of people that they are going to be a team to beat in the future.
Ohio Bobcats
5 of 10We now switch from The Ohio State University to simply Ohio. The Ohio Bobcats may be a bit of a shocker on this list, but they are the top team in the MAC Conference and have a legitimate chance at winning all their games this season.
Ohio was featured on the national stage in the first weekend of the season, and the Bobcats responded by getting a huge win over Penn State at a very emotional setting in Happy Valley.
The Bobcats have backed up that performance with three more victories. They open up conference play this weekend against Massachusetts.
The Bobcats' athletic program is on the rise. The football team won 10 games last year and the men's basketball team made the Sweet 16 back in March.
Now it is time for the football team to shine again. Quarterback Tyler Tettleton could lead Ohio to the biggest season in the history of the program.
Florida State Seminoles
6 of 10Now it's time to start talking about some of the bigger contenders this season, and we start with the Seminoles. Quarterback E.J. Manuel led Florida State in an explosive second half Saturday night to help the Seminoles defeat a very tough Clemson Tigers team.
Florida State will now embark on a schedule of games that is simply not that tough. The Seminoles have a test at the end of the season against their rivals, the Florida Gators, but aside from that game, the road is pretty clear..
Florida State got through one of its toughest tests Saturday night, and the 'Noles are now locked in and ready to pursue a perfect season.
Oregon Ducks
7 of 10Head coach Chip Kelly has had many great teams at Oregon, but this squad is one of his best. That is a scary proposition considering one of those teams nearly won the BCS National Championship two years ago.
The Ducks absolutely pounded a very good Arizona team Saturday night. While the offense was explosive, the most impressive thing about that win was the defense. Oregon held one of the top offensive teams in the country to zero points on Saturday.
Oregon has some tough matchups on its schedule, but it's nothing the Ducks can't handle. The Ducks will look to use their explosive offense and tough defense to carry them all the way to an undefeated season this year.
Georgia Bulldogs
8 of 10And here comes the SEC.
You can probably guess who the last two teams are on this slideshow, which means that Georgia is the only team on here from a very strong SEC East division. Georgia is the SEC East team with the best chance of running the regular-season table because Florida and South Carolina both have to play LSU, while Georgia does not.
The defense is one of the best in all of college football and the offense is extremely explosive. Outside of a couple tough games, the schedule is also very favorable.
Georgia could be contending for more than just a conference title if they win the SEC East division this year.
LSU Tigers
9 of 10Obviously, a spot on this list had to be given to LSU. The schedule is not easy for the Tigers, but they will likely be able to get through most of it just fine.
The real test will come against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Last year, the Tigers beat the Tide during the regular season, but were dismantled by them in the BCS National Championship Game. They will certainly have revenge on their mind this year.
A national championship is certainly in the realm of possibility for the Tigers this season, but Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide stand in their way.
Alabama Crimson Tide
10 of 10The defending national champions have once again shown that they are going to have little competition this season. The biggest matchup by far will be the battle against LSU on the first weekend of November, but besides that the schedule is not very difficult.
The Tide have always had a great defense under Coach Saban, but the emergence of quarterback A.J. McCarron and his ability to take care of the football and lead the 'Bama offense has been essential in helping the Tide dominate this season.
Look for Alabama to make a very strong run at a perfect season this year.
