Fantasy Football Week 3: Latest Injury Updates on Late-Game Studs

Mike MoraitisJun 3, 2018

Each and every week of the NFL season, fantasy football owners must pay close attention to the injury reports to make sure their top players will take the field.

Let's take a look at the injury status of some of the bigger names in football playing in late games and whether or not fantasy football owners should start them in Week 3.

All injury report information can be found on ESPN.com.

Jeremy Maclin, WR, Philadelphia Eagles (Out: Hip)

Maclin put up impressive numbers for fantasy owners in Week 1, but since then he's been battling a hip injury that will keep him out of the Eagles' Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

With his status already known for Sunday, owners can start looking to their bench for a replacement for Maclin without having to wait for official word before the game.

Roddy White, WR, Atlanta Falcons (Probable: Knee)

White is expected to play for the Falcons against the San Diego Chargers in Week 3, so it's safe to say fantasy owners can keep him in the lineup for Sunday.

But beware, White's knee injury could limit his abilities against the Chargers and if that happens to be the case, Matt Ryan could look to Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez and his other options instead.

That could leave White with a lackluster point output in fantasy leagues.

Ryan Mathews, RB, San Diego Chargers (Questionable: Clavicle)

Fantasy owners are chomping at the bit to insert Mathews into their starting lineup, but not so fast.

Mathews is expected to suit up on Sunday for his first game of the season despite his questionable status. However, it isn't yet known how much of a workload Mathews will receive and chances are he won't get his normal amount of carries as the Chargers try to bring him along slowly in order to keep him healthy for the long haul.

Mike Wallace, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (Probable: Groin)

Wallace is expected to take the field on Sunday despite dealing with a groin injury.

Wallace has yet to put up a ton of yards in a game this season, but he's gotten into the end zone once in each game.

If he's on the field, Wallace will no doubt be a target for Ben Roethlisberger. But don't forget that if Wallace isn't his normal self as a result of the injury, Big Ben has plenty of other options to go to.

Brandon Lloyd, WR, New England Patriots (Questionable: Thigh)

Lloyd was limited in practice on Friday and that leaves the Pats wide receiver questionable for Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens defense will put up a tough fight against the Pats, making it unlikely Tom Brady and company will put up a ton of offense in this game in the first place.

If he does play, Lloyd likely won't be at 100 percent. And if that's the case, Brady will look elsewhere to throw the ball. It isn't looking good for Lloyd all around in Week 3 and that makes it a safe bet to sit him.
