The New Orlean Saints' Defense
2008 was yet another rough season for the New Orleans Saints defense, but I am not going to point directly at the negative. First I am going to talk about what has worked for us.
Jonathan Vilma worked out for us extremely well and has become the leader of our shifty defense. Sedrick Ellis was a great addition to a defensive line which has not been the same.
Now I will begin with the defensive line since we are on that subject already. The pass rush from our defensive ends is a big part of the reason we have given up so many big plays.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Charles Grant who has only put up 5.5 sacks in the past two seasons is simply overpaid and should take a pay cut or simply be released. It would give the Saints some cap space.
They should bring in another defensive end to rotate along side of Bobby McCray who led the defensive line with sacks 6.0 (both Of our starting defensive ends have only three). A great rotational defensive end Chauncey Davis would be a great addition who recorded 4.0 sacks last season.
Will Smith, who has played great against the run, needs some help on his side of the line maybe add another defensive tackle to the line. Release Brian Young and Hollis Thomas to free up more space and bring in more rotational defensive tackles at cheaper prices.
The pass rush is a must for the New Orleans Saints.
Linebackers and defensive linemen have showed great run stopping. I am still caught up in how great we did against Adrian Peterson. Stopping the run in a division with four great running backs is a must.
We might need help on the weak side of the defense. Maybe a new outside linebacker would be a great addition with Scott Shanle a question.
Safety has been a need for the Saints since the tease we got in 2006 from Josh Bullocks. We need a safety who can come up a and cover and stop the run. There are no stand out safeties worth taking in the first round for the Saints.
Gerald Sensabaugh, a safety from the Jacksonville Jaguars who knows Gregg Williams' defense, would be a great addition to help other players in the secondary know how he like the defense ran he same move The New York Jets are making but once again none of this can be done unless we make moves to get more salary cap.
The cornerbacks with the newest addition of Jabari Greer. I don't know what to hope for next season or I don't know what we should do in the draft. We need Mike Mckenzie to stay healthy.
He is the leader of our cornerbacks and, no, he will not move to free safety. Tracy Porter was an eye opener for us and he will continue to bloom much like Sedrick Ellis on the line will.
Jason David should not start or lineup against first or second WR's. I would like to see him used in different packages maybe in underneath coverage. He lead the team in interceptions so that has to be considered.
Randall Gay...I'm still scratching my head about this one. He didn't get one interception, and I don't know if this was even a addition we needed. Maybe a cut should happen—or maybe a trade.
Jabari Greer will be a great cornerback who missed some of last season with an injury but he had two interceptions both returned for touchdown which is always a plus.
This is what I think about my Saints defense and what we need to address. Gregg Williams is always a plus but don't expect a top ranked defense just yet.
This is my first article, so please don't burn me too badly.
