Brian Orakpo: Twitter Reaction Around Season-Ending Injury

Richard LangfordSep 17, 2012

The news has gone from bad to worse for the Washington Redskins. Their heartbreakingly close loss to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday was followed by the news that QB sack-master Brian Orakpo is done for the year.

ESPN's Adam Schefter passed along the news.

"

Redskins announced LB Brian Orakpo tore his left pec and is out for the year.

This is a huge blow to the Redskins defense, and you better believe the news of his injury has not gone unnoticed.

Always the optimist, JP Kirby points out that Orakpo shouldn't have a hard time filling up his newfound free time.

"

Look on the bright side, Redskins fans. At least Brian Orakpo has plenty of time to go to the pancake social.

— JP Kirby (@the506) September 17, 2012"

How important is Orakpo to Washington? Well, this fan feels he was so vital to the Washington's chances that he appears to be conceding the season.

"

Brian Orakpo out for the season. *sighs and folds up redskins jersey for next year*

— Brandon Taylor (@hokiemantaylor) September 17, 2012"

Redskins, football and GEICO commercial fans have taken to Twitter to voice their reaction to this unfortunate news.

This fan succinctly sums up what the majority of Redskins fans are thinking in light of this news.

"

No orakpo is out for the season!!!!! Nooooooo!!!!!

— Melissa Kopecky (@MELAAKO) September 17, 2012"

Yes, when you lose a player that has recorded 28.5 sacks in the three seasons leading up to this one, I believe the extra "o's" and exclamations are warranted.

Meanwhile, Redskins super-fan and Bleacher Report's own Matt Faulconer is using this news as the impetus to do a little sightseeing.

"

Currently searching for the tallest bridge in town. #Orakpo #Redskins

— Matt Faulconer (@MattFaulconer10) September 17, 2012"

This news did not just usher in the laments of Redskins fans. Tyler J. Petty knows the total ramifications of this injury.

"

Orakpo's out for the season. What does this mean for his Geico commercials with the Caveman? espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id…

— Tyler J. Petty (@TylerJPetty) September 17, 2012"

He is certainly not the only one thinking of cavemen after the injury. There are a few people discussing how this connects with the popular GEICO spot, with at least one person going so far as to speculate on the real culprit of Orakpo's injury.

"

"@nfl: Brian Orakpo suffers season-ending injury: on.nfl.com/OrakpoInjury" The caveman took that Scrabble loss extra hard.

— Jeffrey H MacLachlan (@jeffmack) September 17, 2012"

Let's just hope this tweet doesn't ignite some ugly caveman profiling by authorities.

And Redskins fans, while this is a big blow and it would seem that the football gods are conspiring against you, get over it. You have about 15 years of watching Robert Griffin III run circles around defenses ahead of you.
