Post-Combine Two-Round NFL Mock Draft

Will OsgoodMar 3, 2009

While I'm not big on the Combine being something that teams take a lot of stock in when the actual draft comes along, I do realize certain things that happen that week do impact selections in the draft.

For that reason, here is my updated, Two-Round Mock Draft, after having watched a lot more film.

1. Detroit-  Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest

Please Lions, just make the safe pick.

2. St. Louis-  Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern Cal

Best QB in the draft, did nothing to hurt his draft status.

3. Kansas City- Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

For quite awhile I assumed this would be a defensive selection, but I think the Chiefs would love to add another piece to the puzzle on offense for Matt Cassell to throw to.

4. Seattle- Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

Appears to be the new favorite for top tackle. Have not seen him on film, and unfortunately probably won't be able to.

5. Cleveland- Everette Brown, OLB, Florida State

Once again it appears that Brown is going to be the top 3-4 OLB (pass-rush specialist) in the draft. Cleveland could use someone like that.

6. Cincinnati- Andre Smith, OT, Alabama

Took quite a plunge from potentially being the No. 1 pick, but we all know the Bengals don't care about character. Smith could potentially play guard or RT, if the Bengals don't view as a LT.

7. Oakland- Eugene Monroe, OT, UVa

Maclin is tempting to Davis, but I think for once common sense wins, since there are many other speedy receivers to be had later in the draft. Monroe is good in Pass Pro, one of the biggest issues the Raiders had last season.

8. Jacksonville- Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi

Jags need a three-technique to place next to John Henderson, and this is the best one in the draft. Raji of course is more suited for NT in a 3-4.

9. Green Bay- B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College

Green Bay really has nobody currently to fill this gap in their defense. Raji should be a very good NT for years and years.

10. San Francisco- Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas

'Niners still need to find a pass-rushing OLB. Orakpo has a chance to be that guy.

11. Buffalo- Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

Oher's stock has apparently dropped, but I think it will rise again, as the guy is very talented. In fact, guys with his talent don't come around very often.

12. Denver- Alex Mack, C, Cal

If the draft played out like this, Denver would probably do just about anything to trade this pick, since pretty much all the guys they would likely target on defense are gone.

However, Center is a bit of a need position for them, and Mack has a chance to be starter for a long, long time.

13. Washington- Percy Harvin, RB/WR, Florida

Washington needs an infusion of offensive talent, and Harvin is a blazer with incredible hands who can run the ball, catch the ball out of the backfield or from the slot/out wide (a lot like Reggie Bush). He provides the Redskins a dimension their offense currently does not possess.

14. New Orleans- D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt

There is no way I anticipated Malcolm Jenkins still being on the board, but I haven't done a report on him yet, so until I have, I'm going to assume Moore is the best corner in the draft.

He is a guy who will do many different things for a team, and has versatility in that he could play the safety position if asked to do so. Most of all, he is a winner.

15. Houston- Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State

If Jenkins is available here, Houston will take next to no time to turn in the card. He could be the missing point to their defense (making them potentially a very good team).

16. San Diego- Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia

Pretty much nothing will stop me from hoping Moreno lands in San Diego (I guess I wouldn't mind New Orleans either, just it's less of a need). To me, this guy is a future Hall of Famer, meaning the Chargers could have two of them on the roster at the same time.

17. New York Jets- Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland

Jets need more talent at the receiver position. Stafford was considered here, but after review, he would definitely choke on "The BIG Apple."

18. Chicago- Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama

I have him on my top-20 board. I still have to watch some more safeties, so this could change. I also considered a Defensive End here.

19. Tampa Bay- Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee

Tampa continues its' youth movement on the defensive-side of the ball with an on-the-rise pass rusher.

20. Detroit- Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest

This pick should've been gone to secure the services of Matt Cassell (don't know how the Lions blew that one). Smith is going to be the kind of guy Head Coach Jim Schwartz wants on his team. Another tough guy, who is a winner.

21. Philadelphia- Sean Smith, S, Utah

Haven't graded him yet, but definitely get the feeling he is a Philly kind of guy.

22. Minnesota- James Laurinaitis, MLB, Ohio State

Vikings desperately need to upgrade the Middle Linebacker position and Laurinaitis is the perfect fit.

23. New England- Rey Maualuga, ILB, Southern Cal

I think this is a good fit. I like Maualuga but think he is more of a late first-round guy. Belichick would definitely get the most out of him.

24. Atlanta- Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech

Falcons need another pass-rusher from the DE position and this is the best fit with the position they are drafting.

25. Miami- Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia

As I said in my last mock, the Groh-Parcells relationship will yield a draft pick for the Dolphins that makes a lot of sense.

26. Baltimore- Eric Wood, C, Louisville

Wood is the second best center in this draft (so far out of the guys I've graded which include Wood, Mack, and Unger) and the Ravens need someone to replace Jason Brown.

27. Indianapolis- Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State

I know this seems like a bit of a reach, but Bill Polian is known to do that a little (and it usually works), plus he loves Ohio State Wide Receivers. Robiskie is the most ready to play receiver in the entire draft.

28. Philadelphia- Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa

Philly needs a big, bruising type back to replace Correll Buckhalter, and a guy who can pair well with Brian Westbrook. Greene in my opinion is the best fit here.

29. New York Giants- Hakeem Nicks, WR, UNC

Nicks is a big, physical receiver, who is similar in build and style to Plax. Plus, he should be here at this pick.

30. Tennessee- Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina

Cook is the best athlete at the Tight End position in this draft and shows it on film. He can stretch the middle of the field, while the other Tight Ends can block for the Titans in the run game.

31. Arizona- LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh

McCoy is the perfect compliment to Tim Hightower and the high-powered Cardinals offense.

32. Pittsburgh- Tyson Jackson, 3-4 DE, LSU

Jackson fits a need and is probably the best player available at this point. Plus, he's a winner, having played at LSU.

Second Round

33. Detroit- Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia

I know he's more likely to be taken with the No. 1 pick in the First Round than here, but in reality, I don't even think he should be taken this high.

34. New England- Clay Matthews, OLB, Southern Cal

35. St. Louis- Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina

36. Cleveland- Darius Butler, CB, UCONN

37. Seattle- Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn

38. Cincinnati- Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri

39. Jacksonville- Andy Levitre, OG, Oregon State

40. Oakland- Pat White, QB/WR, West Virginia

41. Green Bay- Larry English, DE/OLB, Northern Illinois

42. Buffalo- Brandon Pettigrew

43. San Francisco- Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

44. Miami Dolphins- Jarron Gilbert, 3-4 DE, San Jose State

45. New York Giants- Andre Brown, RB, NC State

46. Houston- Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State

47. New England- Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois

48. Denver- Ron Brace, NT, Boston College

49. Chicago- Lawrence Sidbury Jr., DE, Richmond

50. Tampa Bay- Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State

51. Dallas- Kyle Moore, 3-4 DE, Southern Cal

52. New York Jets- Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn State

53. Philadelphia- Shawn Nelson, TE, Southern Miss

54. Minnesota- Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma

55. Atlanta- Tyrone McKenzie, OLB, USF

56. Miami- Juaquin Iglesias, WR, Oklahoma

57. Baltimore- Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers

58. New England- Brandon Tate, WR, UNC

59. Carolina- Paul Kruger, DE, Utah

60. New York Giants- Asher Allen, CB, Georgia

61. Indianapolis- Evander Hood, DT, Missouri

62. Tennessee- Dorrell Scott, DT, Clemson

63. Arizona- Khalif Mitchell, 3-4 DE, East Carolina

64. Pittsburgh- Herman Johnson, OG, LSU
