Congratulations Scot McCloughan, You Are A Moron

Steven ResnickMar 3, 2009

The Seattle Seahwaks have made an announcement to the NFC West that last year's finish was a fluke, but they also improved the team dramatically with the signing of veteran wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh—a deal that is for five years and 40 million dollars.

This move makes the Seahawks clear favorites to win the division. With Matt Hasselbeck returning healthy and Houshmandzadeh at wide receiver, the Seahawks have the talent to run away with the NFC West.

During this time what did San Francisco 49ers general manager do?

He decided the best option would be to sign Brandon Jones formerly of the Tennessee Titans who's best season in the NFL was last year with 41 catches for 449 yards and yet only managed one touchdown receiving—Houshmandzadeh caught 92 passes for 904 yards and four touchdowns.

Besides the signing of Jones by McCloughan he also wasted time by entertaining free agent quarterback Kurt Warner who has supposedly turned down a two year contract for 20 million dollars from the Cardinals.

Luckily, no contract was offered to Warner but he's also looking for more money. So, it's easy to realize that the 49ers could have afforded Houshmanzadeh.

If the 49ers are so concerned about upgrading the quarterback position there's another quarterback avaliable who's younger and better than Warner.

His name is Jay Cutler and he's currently unhappy with the Bronco's organization who were apparently looking to trade Cutler and bring in Matt Cassell. The 49ers do not need to bring in 37-year-old Warner when they could get the much younger Cutler.

If McCloughan isn't considering an upgrade to the receivers then there are other areas that the 49ers need to improve on. Instead of wasting money stupidly on Warner, the 49ers should be looking to improve the defensive line and the pass rush—or more importantly, the offensive line.

Right now, the 49ers don't seem to have improved on much of anything and this team will be lucky to get to the seven wins the team had this year.

It is clear though that McCloughan needs to realize that Warner is not the answer for the 49ers and he actually needs to improve the 49ers' weak areas.
