Jerry Lawler: WWE Legend Must Be Cautious After Health Scare on Raw

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Jerry Lawler has made progress toward a full recovery following the heart attack he suffered during Monday night's Raw broadcast. While that has people talking about his future with the WWE, "The King" should be thinking more about his long-term health.

Elio Cannella of WrestlingNewsSource.com passed along a report that talked about Lawler possibly returning to the ring in the future. The star's son said doctors are pleased with Lawler's state of health, even after the scary situation.

Even though seeing Lawler back in the ring would be a great moment for the WWE Universe to witness, it should be the last thing on his mind for the foreseeable future. He needs to focus on getting back to 100 percent with some rest.

Wrestling isn't easy. Nobody knows that better than Lawler, who has been working for the WWE and various independent promotions for decades. At 62, his body isn't as prepared for the grind as it was when he was in his prime.

After what happened on Monday night, Lawler should err on the side of caution. The last thing anybody wants to see is him trying to push too hard in order to have another match, with the WWE or elsewhere, only to have another problem.

Nobody has ever questioned his love for the business. If he never had another match, he would still go down as one of the most decorated wrestlers of all time and would have virtually universal respect from the wrestling community.

In other words, he has nothing left to prove. While he loves wrestling, playing it safe is the right way to go. At least for now, to make sure he doesn't have any setbacks.

His first goal should be getting back on commentary. The WWE will struggle to replace him due to his connection with the audience, and seeing him back sitting next to Michael Cole at some point would put a smile on a lot of faces across the WWE Universe.

If at some point he feels comfortable getting back between the ropes and the doctors give him full clearance, it will be something to consider. But that won't be for a while. There are still a lot of hurdles to jump before that option arises.

Making sure he returns to his usual, jovial self comes first. It seems like he's well on his way.
