Cedric Benson Fantasy Football Profile: Updated Analysis of Packers RB's Value

If you need to rely on a Green Bay Packers running back, your fantasy football season is in dire straights.

Cedric Benson only garnered nine carries in the Week 1 clash with the San Francisco 49ers. He was also out-rushed by his quarterback as Benson averaged a sad two yards per carry.

However, Mike McCarthy finally seems to grasp that, although the NFL is a passing league, you need to at least show the run every once in a while. Could there be some value to the Packers' new "bell cow" after all?

Waiver Wire Value: In a free-agent auction league, nobody should spend more than three dollars to acquire Benson's services. 

Trade Value: Under no circumstances should you trade for Cedric Benson. None.

Analysis: The Packers gave Benson nine carries in the first quarter, and he responded with 39 yards. He tore off a few eight-yard rushes when allowed to pound up the middle. Yet, Green Bay likes to run stretch plays that Benson is no longer capable of executing. Additionally, the Pack is not going to become a run-reliant team, and Benson has never had more than 28 catches in a season. Unless your second or third-string running back has a bye week or gets injured, Benson should stay on your bench.
