AFC Free Agency Review: Part One—AFC East

New England Patriots

Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel were traded to Kansas City in a trade that at the last hour would have sent Jay Cutler to Kansas City and Matt Cassel to Denver.

New England signed Fred Taylor. Taylor will replace LaMont Jordan, who is expected not to re-sign, at running back.

Jabar Gaffney signed with Denver and Kelly Washington was cut, leaving New England with Matt Slater and Sam Aiken to move up in the depth chart.

Chris Baker was signed. Baker will challenge David Thomas and Ben Watson at tight end.

Buffalo Bills

Ryan Fitzpatrick was signed to replace J.P. Losman, who is not expected to re-sign, at quarterback.

Derrick Dockery was cut after a failed trade that would have sent him to Detroit. Geoff Hangartner was signed to start at center. The starters at the other two guard spots have not been determined.

Robert Royal was cut. The Bills will need to address tight end still.

New York Jets

Brett Favre retired, leaving the Jets with Kellen Clemens and Brett Ratliff to battle it out for the starting spot.

Laveranues Coles was cut. Chansi Stuckey is expected to replace him at wide receiver.

Chris Baker was cut. He will be replaced by Dustin Keller at tight end.

Bart Scott was signed, and he will replace Eric Barton, who is not expected to be re-signed, at inside linebacker.

The Jets traded for Lito Sheppard. Sheppard will replace Ty Law at cornerback.
