FIFA 13: Demo Gameplay Introduces Skill Games as Fun Companion to Full Game
FIFA 13 has a pretty hefty array of gameplay options, but one of the newest modes are the skill games. In the demo that was released on Tuesday you get a sneak peek at a few of them.
When you load up a match in the demo, instead of getting the free-play practice option you get the opportunity to play one of the skill games.
There are passing accuracy mini-games like the one pictured below. For those that may be familiar with the old quarterback presence drills from the Madden series, this is somewhat similar.

There is also a mode that has you practicing accuracy with free kicks. This one can be challenging as it requires you to judge the power on the shot attempt. That can be one of the hardest things to judge—at least it is for me.
The skills game that simulates penalty kicks is perhaps the simplest of them all, but still an entertaining diversion.
The full versions of the aforementioned skills games and a few more will be available when the retail version releases on September 25.
It is nice that playing the skills games awards you achievements, trophies, and XP, but it also helps you with certain aspects of the gameplay. One issue I have is aiming my shots during gameplay. After running through the skills games a few times it feels like I'm gaining a little more control over the destination of shots.
That is especially the case as it relates to power. I tend to go for the gusto a little too much on some shots. The free kick skills game gave me a little better feel for the power meter.
As a separate game from simulation style play or as a training tool the skills games are a nice addition.
