NFL Power Rankings Week 2: Teams with Chance to Improve in Second Game

Ian HanfordJun 6, 2018

No NFL team is a finished product after one week of action, but they can build on their opening performance in Week 2.

Every team has room for improvement following Week 1. Even squads that earned a victory will hit the practice field this week looking to work on a few key nuances of their game.

Certain matchups will give a few teams the chance to establish, or reestablish, themselves in the Week 2 rankings.

Let's take a look at three teams that will have a chance to improve their power ranking in the season's second week.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos scored a huge victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Peyton Manning's debut, making a major statement in the AFC while they were at it.

Their Week 2 tilt against the Atlanta Falcons lends them another opportunity to establish themselves, perhaps even more than the first one did.

Atlanta's 40-24 win over Kansas City in Week 1 was among Sunday's most impressive performances. Matt Ryan was on point, Julio Jones caught two touchdowns and the defense was better than the point total showed.

If Denver can beat the Falcons on Monday night, they will land themselves in the thick of most power rankings. They are already a fringe candidate for the top 10. Moving to 2-0 would put them in the top five.

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia was incredibly sloppy in Week 1, and they barely sneaked by the Browns, but a win is a win.

They will have a chance to reestablish themselves in Week 2 against the Ravens. Baltimore's dominant performance against the Bengals Monday night confirmed what most expected from them coming into the season, and their defense will feast on any Eagles turnovers.

Michael Vick threw four interceptions against Cleveland. If he does that again, the Eagles have no chance at victory.

On the other hand, the Eagles defense played extremely well themselves. Baltimore's offense is better than they were last year. Their 44 points on Monday sent that message loud and clear.

The Eagles have a chance to bounce back in a big way against the Ravens. If they can earn their second win in prettier fashion, fans will feel better about this squad.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers were one of last year's most disappointing teams, but their Week 1 win over Carolina provided an early positive for this season.

Rookie running back Doug Martin got off to a hot start, running for 95 yards in his debut. He provided balance on offense and gave Josh Freeman another option to lean on.

Defensively, the Bucs made Cam Newton uncomfortable. They forced two turnovers, and they gave their offense the best chance to win the game.

No one is ready to say that Tampa Bay is "back", but a victory over the New York Giants would go a long way toward that notion. They travel to New York in Week 2, looking to earn a huge victory.

This team has a lot of potential, but they must put it all together against quality teams.
