Rashad Jennings Injury: Latest Updates on RB's Week 2 Status and Fantasy Value

Patrick ClarkeJun 6, 2018

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Rashad Jennings went down early on in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a right knee injury in the second quarter.

He was originally listed as questionable after Week 1 wrapped up on Monday, according to ESPN.com, but it is now being reported by Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union that Jennings has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.

According to the Associated Press (via The Sacramento Bee), Jennings underwent an MRI to allow doctors to determine the extent of his injury.

As for the nature of Jennings' knee injury, Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey did originally tell reporters that he doesn't believe it's "serious," according to O'Halloran.

Rotoworld NFL writer Adam Levitan backed that report up on Twitter:

"

Rashad Jennings' knee injury isn't considered serious, but his time as starter likely done anyway. MJD looked solid bit.ly/qDc49B

Jennings' absence opens the door for more carries for Maurice Jones-Drew, who was impressive against Minnesota despite having missed training camp and preseason because of a 38-day holdout.

The fourth-year running back out of Liberty gained just 31 yards on eight carries before leaving the game. Meanwhile, Jones-Drew finished Week 1 with 77 yards on 19 carries and three catches for 18 yards.

MJD has nearly 7,000 career rushing yards under his belt, while Jennings has yet to reach 700 for his career. The injury bug continues to bite Jennings, who missed all of the 2011 season after hurting his knee in the third week of the preseason.

When it was first announced that Rashad Jennings would start the season at RB for the Jaguars, the veteran became a hot fantasy football commodity.

To Levitan's point, Jones-Drew looked fresh and much more explosive than Jennings in Week 1 and will now be leaned on heavily in Week 2 against Houston.
