UFC 152: 4 MMA Fighters Who Don't Get Enough Credit

Anthony FuscoSep 9, 2012

Across the UFC, there are many great fighters. Fans know every detail about them and their fighting styles.

They are given credit as great fighters who put on exciting matches for the fans. They know how to win. In the UFC today there is another group of fighters as well. The fighters that go out and win fights, but seemingly never receive credit.

There are many of those fighters in the UFC today. No matter what they do, they don't receive the same credit and admiration as some of their peers.

My list will explore exactly who some of those fighters are. Enjoy!

Honourable Mention: Michael Bisping

1 of 4

Michael Bisping is in the title of the slideshow so he deserves his own slide.

Bisping is a very good middleweight fighter. Many people will disagree with that statement, however. But look at the facts.

Bisping holds a record of 22-4. He recently had a four-fight winning streak snapped by Chael Sonnen. This fight was extremely controversial, and I for one believe Bisping won that fight.

Despite the loss, Bisping find himself in a pivotal match up with Brian Stann at UFC 152. The winner of this fight is close to a title shot.

Bisping has excellent striking and very underrated takedown defense. He is a well rounded fighter.

I'm not sure why fans don't give him some credit. Maybe because he's a bit of a villain, or maybe because he doesn't have a big-name win.

Regardless, Bisping never gets the credit he deserves from the fans.

Martin Kampmann

2 of 4

I'll come right out and say it. I'm guilty as charged when not giving Martin Kampmann any credit. Martin Kampmann seems to be continually overlooked by fans.

It has gotten better recently, with Kampmann going on a solid three-fight winning streak. Look at the facts. He defeated a solid wrestler in Rick Story. Next up, after getting dominated for almost the entire fight, he throws up a Hail Mary submission and catches Thiago Alves.

The best was yet to come as Kampmann defeated the rising Jake Ellenberger by TKO in his most recent fight. He has earned himself a top contenders match with Johny Hendricks at UFC 154.

Kampmann seems to have found his game as of late. Fans should really pay attention and give the guy some credit. By the way he's also the only man in the UFC to defeat interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit.

Joe Lauzon

3 of 4

Joe Lauzon is truly an exciting fighter. No matter where the fight goes, J-Lau is always game.

It amazes me that despite all that Lauzon has done, some fans don't recognize his talent today.

Let's recap some facts.

Joe Lauzon made his UFC debut with a wicked KO over Jens Pulver. He is ruthless with his submissions, evidenced by his eighteen wins via that method.

He has kimuras, rear-naked chokes, arm bars, triangles and more. Lauzon has 11 post-fight bonuses, which is the second highest total in the UFC.

Lauzon has high-level skill, and should never be underestimated. And one more example of his finishing prowess, in every fight he has won, he has never gone to a decision. Now that is impressive.

Alan Belcher

4 of 4

This was the most obvious one for me. Alan Belcher is a great fighter. He is probably the most underrated fighter in the UFC today.

Belcher is currently on a four-fight winning streak, with finishes over Wilson Gouveia, Patrick Cote, Jason MacDonald and most recently Rousimar Palhares.

Fans underrate Belcher in every facet of his game. He has some excellent kickboxing skills, and a very good submission game.

This is the man who survived and dominated on the ground against Palhares remember.

That's a feat on its own.

Belcher is a middleweight contender, with a well-rounded and fan-friendly game. He is always forgotten or brushed aside—but not anymore. Blecher's time is now, so jump on board and join the hype train.

If you have another fighter you feel should be included, shoot me a comment. Or check out my Twitter @FuscoNation16.
