Top Free Agents the Cincinnati Bengals Need To Sign

Aaron WadeMar 2, 2009

Now that the 2009 Free Agent signing is underway, there are a few things on the Bengals shopping list.  Here are the players that the Bengals can pick-up that can fill those spots.

1. Derrick Ward - Running Back

The Bengals need to have a solid Running Back and Ward is their answer. He had a great year last year with the Giants and he can put up those same numbers in Cincinnati if he stays healthy. He can be a power back, catch passes out of the backfield and can also block well, something the Bengals have not had in recent years.

2. Laveranues Coles - Wide Receiver

The Bengals have had Wide Receiver issues for several years.  With Chad not preforming up to his level and TJ more than likely leaving Cincinnati, the Bengals need a top No. 2 option and Coles would be a good fit.

He is experienced and he has played with some great Quarterbacks, which would be good for fit for Palmer.

3. Adam Goldberg - Offensive Line

The Bengals straight up need a offensive line.  Last year, the team had so many injuries that they could not do any blocking and it cost them.  If they can sign Goldberg, they can get a big, experienced player to hold down that line.

4. Julius Peppers - Defensive End

The Bengals have a decent pass rushers on the inside with Peko but they don't really have the outside attack they are looking for. Peppers can be a great asset to the team and they can get not only a good player, but also a leader that the D-Line can work with and rally around.

5. Ray Lewis - Linebacker

If the Bengals could only sign one person all off-season, this is the person they need to get.  He is one of the best linebackers of all time and he would be a great fit for the Bengals.

He would add a leadership role on defense, and a great player to hold down the Linebacker core.  Ray would also add a new level of aggression to the Bengals, something we have not seen in a long time.

6. Zach Thomas - Linebacker

This would be another great pick-up for the team.  He is a veteran player that has had playoff experience before and can really add to the team's overall production.

7. Ty Law - Cornerback

Law would add a lot to the struggling Bengals secondary.  He would have the speed to match up with the fastest receivers in the league.  He could also bring the experience to the team and teach the younger cornerbacks and mentor them.

The Bengals have a huge shopping list this offseason but, if they get even a few of these guys, they will help the team out significantly.
