India Vs New Zealand: First ODI Preview

Dann KhanMar 2, 2009

After the white wash New Zealand performed in the T20s, many have tipped the Kiwis the favourites of the coming ODI series which starts tomorrow.

Who wins wins and who loses though, is yet to be decided. Mahander Singh Dhoni, the Indian skipper, has maintained that the team is fine and is full of confidence.

Daniel Vettori, his counterpart, has also put aside the previous victories and is just concentrating on the matches to come.

Indian batsmen will look to correct their T20 mistakes and at the same time be positive about their game.

In the second of the two T20s several Indian batsmen continued their poor batting form from the first T20. Some were not sure when to play shot and therefore got out to loose balls. The batsmen are in form, they just need to play well.

I am expecting Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir to fire. Lower down I only trust Dhoni to look to play properly. Sachin Tendulkar may or may not fire(depending on the umpires).

The bowling is pretty good, but the loss of Ishant Sharma's will leave a big hole to be filled. Praveen Kumar will most probably cam in for him. Munaf Patal may come in for Irfan Pathan.

If I have to choose the wicket taking bowler from India for tomorrow, it will be Zaheer Khan with Harbhajan Singh keeping it tight.

As for the Kiwis, Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor are the main guys. Also, Brendon McCullum will look to do something similar to the T20s. I am expecting Oram to do something tomorrow though, something like a return from injury hundred.

Vettori will be the main bowling threat and I expect him to be the container tomorrow. Kyle Mills will most probably pickup 2-3 wickets. Ian O'Brien may do the same as him. Tim Southee will be their only concern. Ian Butler may prove useful as well

And above everything I hope it is a great match.

And the Indian team, like James Bond's martini, is only shaken, not stirred!!
