Antonio DeMarco vs. John Molina: Fight Time, Date, Live Stream, TV Info and More

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Antonio DeMarco and John Molina fight on the same card as Andre Ward and Chad Dawson on Saturday, but don't be surprised if DeMarco and Molina give us the more entertaining bout by night's end.

DeMarco and Molina are fighters who will go after their respective opponents with fervor, and when two fighters like this are pitted against each other, it usually makes for a bruising bout.

Get ready for a battle as DeMarco defends his WBC lightweight title.

DeMarco's Keys to Victory

DeMarco is a sharper, quicker puncher than Molina. In that sense, he can afford to be a bit more conservative and rely on his defense at times to open up opportunities for him. I don't expect him to exactly sit back, and he's not going to come away from this fight unscathed, but he showed against Jorge Linares that he could withstand some punishment before ultimately putting an end to the fight.

DeMarco stands the best chance against Molina by picking his spots and waiting for Molina to make a right move before punishing him. Pressing blindly could be the recipe for a disastrous upset.

Molina's Keys to Victory

What should make this bout so exciting is that both fighters will likely go for the knockout. In Molina's case, that can be as much a strength as a weakness. He's shown the propensity to open himself up with wide-arcing shots. He needs to be more careful against DeMarco because bad timing on one of those shots could see him knocked to the floor.

Molina's toughness, of course, can't be questioned. He showed in July 2010 against Hank Lundy that he can withstand a beating only to emerge victorious. He needs to continue to press DeMarco like he did with Lundy to have a shot.

What They're Saying

Molina hit the nail on the head when he described what he thought the fight would look like, via BoxingScene.com:

"

I don't anticipate this fight going 12 rounds. Not by any stretch of the imagination...He's going to engage me. I'm definitely going to engage him. I'm telling you right now from my mouth to your ears, I'm going to engage him.

"

When you have two fighters going for the knockout, one of them is likely going to go down before a decision can be made, even with the chins these guys have.

Both fighters have expressed their respect for each other leading up to the bout.

DeMarco said, via FightNews.com:

"

It would be disrespectful of me to think about another fight or another opponent because it would be as if I thought I was fighting a nobody and John Molina deserves more respect than that because he is a warrior inside the ring and a great fighter.

"

One thing's for sure: The respect DeMarco and Molina have for each other won't stop them from turning it on inside the ring.

Prediction

I have to give this one to DeMarco based on his outstanding victory over Linares and on the fact that he's a more precise, quicker puncher. I don't expect this to be an easy fight for him by any means, and he is sure to take his fair share of lumps, but, when all is said and done, he's a better boxer and he doesn't open himself up the way Molina sometimes does.

DeMarco, via TKO, in the 10th round.
