Starbury, More Like Poisonberry: The Comparison of Stephon Marbury and T.O.

D JMar 1, 2009

What do Stephon Marbury and Terrell Owens have in common? At first glance, not much, they play different sports, Stephon tries to shy from the media, while Terrell can't go more than 10 seconds without the spotlight on him.

As you look closer, you can begin to realize that in the eyes of the sports world Stephon Marbury and Terrell Owens are almost identical.

Marbury has been catapulted back into the news with his release from the New York Knicks, after being basically MIA for the past three or four months.

A man who was once known as one of the best young point guards in the NBA, is now most commonly know for his part in the destruction and embarrassment of his hometown team since 2003-2004 season.

Marbury has complained everywhere he has been, he has ruined relationships in every city he has played in. There is only one other athlete that is known for that, Terrell Owens.

Neither Marbury nor Owens has ever enjoyed any type of significant team success in their careers.

Both players have always had impressive individual career statistics, but it stops there, neither have ever obtained the ultimate sports dream of winning a championship.

These players are out for their own success and that solely. Marbury and Owens are two players that have yet to realize that they both play team sports, which require limitless team chemistry and as we watch Marbury leave the pile of rubble that used to be the New York Knicks, we are also watching Terrell Owens tear apart the unity of his third consecutive competitive team.

The prospect of Marbury signing with the Boston Celtics is appalling. The main reason for the Celtics success is their great combination of talent and chemistry, something that Marbury will surely and eventually pick apart.

Terrell Owens has been branded "Team Obliterator" by the media, by the time Marbury ruins the Celtics shot at title number 18 it wont be Starbury, he will be better known in the Boston tabloids as “Poisonberry.”
