Interactive Tournament: Welterweight Finals
We've come down to the finals for the Welterweight division and do I have an interesting final fight for you. To my huge surprise, the votes for the semifinals were very one-sided and, here's what the results looked like.
Thiago Alves defeated Mike Swick with an 11-5 vote.
Jon Fitch eliminated his partner Josh Koscheck from the tournament with a 14-2 vote.
Mike Swick and Josh Koscheck are not getting much love from the writers, but we are left with an interesting rematch in the finals between Thiago "Pitbull" Alves and Jon Fitch.
Welterweight Finals Fight: Thiago Alves vs Jon Fitch
As a lot of you may remember, these two great fighters fought once in the past and Jon Fitch dominated the fight and TKO'ed Alves in the second round. It's important to say that it was one of Thiago's first fights in the UFC and the kid grew up so much as a fighter since then.
Thiago Alves is on a seven-fight win streak in the UFC with wins over Karo Parisyan, Matt Hugues, and Josh Koscheck. He has become one of the most feared strikers in the Welterweight division and is the current No. one contender for the title.
On the other hand, Jon Fitch had an eight-fight win streak in the UFC before losing to world champion Georges St-Pierre. Like Alves, Fitch defeated some talented fighters in the process.
Unfortunately, he was dominated by St-Pierre and fans stopped giving him the credit he deserves.
Fitch is a great fighter overall and a fight against Alves would be even more interesting this time around. Both men have so much to prove.
Can Alves win the rematch or does Jon Fitch beat Thiago—again?
This is it, the finals of the Welterweight Interactive Tournament. Next week, the final tournament begins as the Middleweights are up.
Tune in next week as the tournament should answer a lot of questions about the Middleweight division.
