WWE Raw Results: Why a Paul Heyman/CM Punk Faction Is Great for WWE

Hector DiazSep 4, 2012

Last year, CM Punk described himself as a Paul Heyman guy, so it should come to no surprise that last Monday’s Raw ended with an accomplished CM Punk getting in a car driven by Heyman.

If this is a sign of things to come, expect Heyman to play the role of Punk’s manager, which is great for not only CM Punk’s heel turn, but for WWE programming in general.

If constantly beating up Jerry “The King” Lawler and belittling others does not make CM Punk a widely accepted heel, Paul Heyman can step in and finish the job.

Heyman is one of wrestling’s greatest and most reviled talkers. Having Heyman speak on behalf of CM Punk can be the most important factor in a believable heel turn.

It allows CM Punk the opportunity to seem arrogant, while not playing the role of the coward like the majority of wrestling heels today.

Instead, Punk’s talk of respect can put him higher on a pedestal as Heyman hypes him up.

Whenever CM Punk says anything, he is greeted with applause because he already has the reputation of being the outspoken superstar, which is problematic.

Having Heyman manage him, and speaking for him on occasion, can take away the notion of being outspoken.

In fact, it makes CM Punk seem like he sold out since he is relying on an established veteran to make his points for him.

This can result in fans who like CM Punk for being an outsider of sorts to dislike his abandonment of what he once stood for, which would make the turn to heel easier.

Paul Heyman is also the manager of Brock Lesnar, who recently proclaimed that he is never going to come back to WWE, but expect him to appear later this year if not in the beginning of 2013.

The mere fact that Heyman is managing more than one superstar may be sign that both Punk and Heyman will align themselves with other superstars in the future, possibly forming a heel stable.

The right combination of superstars and Heyman will definitely bring much more attention to stables and heels, which WWE has neglected to focus on.

Maybe someone as frustrated as Jack Swagger will join Punk, Heyman, and Lesnar. Only time will tell, but expect Heyman to do a lot of the talking until then.
