Mr. Wilf, Coach Childress, Why Is T.J Houshmandzadeh Not a Viking Yet?

Shawn DerbyFeb 28, 2009

This is a no-brainer for Minnesota. One of their most pressing needs is a No. 1 receiver to perform opposite Berrian, and Housh is basically begging Minnesota to sign him.

First, in an interview he expressed great joy in hearing AP's name and the possibility of playing with him in Minnesota. Then, he narrows his list of teams down to four, a list in which the Vikings were on.

Finally, he visits Minnesota today, and still no deal??? Can it be anymore cut and dry for Mr.Wilf and company? Adding Houshmandzadeh would be an immediate improvement to a less than stellar offensive attack outside of AP and the inconsistent home run threat Berrian provides from time to time.

Pull the trigger already!!!

The opportunities that Housh and AP would provide offensively for the Vikings are very intriguing. It opens up the box for Adrian to run a bit more freely, allowing him to dominate and control a game even more than he already does.

Instead of defenses beating the Vikes by simply loading up the box with eight or nine defenders every play and effectively containing AP for most of the game, the newly assembled passing attack of Housh, Berrian, and Wade would demand respect from even the best group of defensive backs.

Which would transform our one-dimensional offense, into a rather athletic, competitive, serious, and talented offensive juggernaut.

Houshmandzadeh's assets are a perfect fit for us hopeful and always optimistic Viking faithful. Some might say he's not worth the No. 1 money he is asking for, maybe because of his age or his slight drop off in statistics in '08, but  Houshmandzadeh is a playmaker, and that's the bottom line.

He is a playmaker that I believe will be the answer to all the questions of inconsistency from Minnesota's underachieving receiving corps.

Minnesota's offense has only been so-so since acquiring Adrian Peterson from OU two years ago. While no one is questioning "All Day" AP's talent, he can only carry the Vikings for so long before his back becomes shot from carrying 10 other men on it for the last few years.

The numbers Housh has put up in recent years, even last year, which granted wasn't his best year, are still well above those of any other Minnesota receiver since the departure of the infamous Randy Moss in '04.

While Berrian did have 60 more receiving yards than Housh, Berrian's 48 receptions were nearly doubled by Houshmandzadeh's 94 in '08.

While neither broke the 1000 yard mark, Houshmandzadeh's career average of 11.4 YPC, his raw ability to score touchdowns, and his career average of 64 receptions per season make him the immediate No. 1, serious threat, and possession receiver that Minnesota needs to command respect in the secondary.

It also ensures at least an average season from the still largely unproven but likely starter in '09, Sage Rosenfels. At age 31, Houshmandzadeh is experienced, though maybe a couple years older than I'd like, but no one can deny his talent and level of skill he plays at every day in practice and every Sunday.

If there is any hope for the Minnesota faithful and our playoff problems, Houshmandzadeh would most definitely answer some of our postseason questions. He will make the entire team better, offense and defense. He will challenge the DB's to be better every time they line up against him in practice.

Housh will give 100 percent every single day, every Sunday. He is a leader, something Minnesota could benefit from on offense, he loves playing the game. Even at the ripe age of 31, he still has at least three to five great years ahead of him.

On behalf of all the Viking fans and players, I greatly encourage you, Mr. Wilf, to PLEASE spend the money that it will take and that we obviously have to bring in a serious playmaker on offense, like Houshmandzadeh, that will slingshot the Vikings and all their faithful fans and supporters into Super Bowl XLIV!!!!!

P.S. Hey Bleacher Reporters, This is my first run at publishing B/R articles. I'd love to hear what you guys think, and any feedback you guys have for me, based on the article or what you think of my writing. (Don't bash me too hard!)
