Juan Manuel Marquez KO's The Baby Bull in Houston

King JFeb 28, 2009

Juan Manuel Marquez knocked out Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz Saturday night in Diaz's hometown of Houston.

The crowd was all live and wild for Diaz cheering on their feet at anything that Diaz threw at Marquez.

Marquez was being overwhelmed by the younger, more aggressive Diaz for the first four rounds. Diaz just like in many of his other fights constantly pressured Marquez with high volume punches and more importantly not allowing Marquez to do what he does best, counter punch.

Finally in the fifth round, Marquez began to figure Diaz out and adjusted to counter punch and land cleaner effective punches. This began to be the significant turning point of the fight.

Diaz then got cut by a precise Marquez right hand that began to bleed and bother Diaz much like the same cut that bothered him to his decision loss against Nate Campbell.

Juan's stamina and pressure began to slow down as Marquez began to turn it up with power shots, winning him the next four rounds.

Finally in the ninth round, Marquez knocked down Diaz with a four-punch combo. Diaz fell below the ring's ropes face forward and was hurt.

Diaz got up to beat the ref's count only to get knocked down again and land flat on his back and the ref took one look and waived off the fight.

With this big win, Marquez solidified his status as the number one Light-weight champion of the world and his top ranking on the pound for pound list just under Manny Pacquiao.

Marquez then stated in his post fight interview that he would like to go up in weight and called out retired former pound for pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. for he felt Pacquiao is not willing to fight him for a rubber match.

King J's score card up to the KO: 76 to 76 Draw

The judges had the fight at a draw with one judge favoring both fighters and one having it even at 76 to 76 as well.

KING J's Prediction prior to this fight: UD or Late Round TKO
